So WTH is AF1?

Anon had trouble with time zone calculations but eventually figured out a departure time from Buenos Aires.

Baker didn't catch my correction in the notables.

So "pre-scheduled send 21:30"

occurred at 4:30 PM PST = 7:30 PM EST

so that means the departure took place

at 7:05 PM EST.

That's about 2 hours ago.

So AF1 should be about 2/9ths of its way home and the flight vector could be just about straight north. AF1 might be over western Brazil at this moment but haven't seen it at all on ADSB radar.

AF1 not seen. Still monitoring.

Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

More relevant consideration: There are probably few/no ADSB receivers over interior South America. The website I use, ADSBExchange.com, relies on amateurs who purchase these receivers and connect to the internet, in order to relay transponder signals to a database. Many parts of the world aren't equipped.

That's right. I'm a planefag but seldom on duty, as my main task here is memefarming and memefagging.

I call myself a member of the Planefag Reserves and only go on duty when absolutely necessary. Someone asked me to monitor AF1's flight. Unfortunately, haven't seen it yet and don't really expect to due to in-flight security.
