Re: yellow jackets, it seems from here it really started only as a reaction to a gas tax increase, but the size & durability of the movement (here strikes grow on trees but rarely last more than a day or two) show that it transformed to a way to express a country's frustration at it's leaders actions. A lot of the message went from protesting the tax hike to asking for macron's resignation.
