I used to work with a French guy in London about 10 years ago and was always taking the piss out of the French with him.
I once asked "Do you know what is wrong with Paris?"
he said "No, tell me what is wrong is wrong with Paris.
"Too many Parisians!, I told him.
He became extremely animated and said "No, my friend, there is not enough Parisians, that is the problem!"
This shows me that the enmity towards the foreign invaders is far from a new sentiment amongst the French.
