Robert Heinlein was part of the ex-Navy Laurel Canyon crowd that David McGowan wrote about in Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon. For Anons who aren't familiar with that conspiracy classic, the extreme tl;dr is that a bunch of ex-Navy and children of Navy parents showed up in Laurel Canyon at the exact same time to create the 1960s hippie pop culture and music that we're all familiar with. I strongly recommend reading the book.

On the subject of MKULTRA, David McGowan also put forward the theory that America's serial killers were really CIA projects.
David McGowan also died of cancer in his 40s after these books were published. How convenient.
