Did the thought-experiment of radio waves bouncing off a dome to see if measured paths and propagation characteristics could be explained that way, and I believe they can. Long-path, short-path etc.

Anon is waiting to learn the truth about the topology of this place.

If scalar/longitudinal wave phenomenon, it takes 2 transmitters which can be located anywhere. The apparent location where the disturbance seemed to come from would be the place that the two transmitters jointly focused on. With this in mind understand that Mayotte Island is not necessarily where the transmitters are located. That would be like looking at the spotlight when you should be looking backwards from it to locate the source of the spotlight.
