Kevlar is more for shrapnel (grenades/bombs) and small arms fire, but the fact is was sheetS is better, the larger the area, the looser it hanges and the more layers there are the more stoping power it would have. Like another anon mentioned, it isn't 'bullet proof' for rifles, thats why we called them 'second chance vests' in security.

 

Any wound you get will be less bad then if you had no protection. Here we are talking about instant death, vs making it to the OR for repairs while waiting for, and ridding on the ambulance
