The three men indicted on charges of fraud, conspiracy, and money-laundering were:
Abul Huda Farouki, a Clinton donor and former CEO of Anham FZCO.
Abul ‘s younger brother, Mazen Farouki, who oversaw Anham’s Afghanistan affiliate.
Salah Maarouf, a businessman from Fairfax, Virginia.
In order to reduce costs on the construction of two warehouses in Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan (so they could pocket higher profits), the Farouki brothers and Maarouf shipped steel through Iran — which is currently under sanctions by the U.S. government.

The indictment, filed before a district court in California, lists 14 fraud charges against Lynch and Stephen Chamberlain, Autonomy's former vice president of finance.
A government Office for Science spokesperson said: "Dr Lynch has made a decision to resign his membership of the CST [council for science and technology] with immediate effect".
They did this, according to the charge sheet, to hit their targets and thus guarantee their salaries, bonuses, and stock options, and to make Autonomy look attractive to purchasers - which it did, given that HP paid 11-figures for the company and its shares.
The pair also said that the claims were related to a business dispute "over the application of United Kingdom accounting standards", and were central to a civil case against HP in English courts, "where it belongs".
Lynch, who co-founded Autonomy in 1996 and was once dubbed Britain's answer to Bill Gates for turning the firm into a world leader, sold it to HP for $11billion (£7.1billion) in 2011.

Amid a bitter dispute over alleged "serious accounting improprieties", Autonomy's founder hurls a whole cake of blame at HP for misleading its shareholders over the fraud claims.
Lynch was also an early investor in UK-based cybersecurity unicorn Darktrace. In 2011, the company was bought by HP for $11bn in a move meant to form the central part of the U.S. group's move into software.

Mike Lynch was a rock star in UK technology circles.
The company he founded, Autonomy, was one of the jewels in the crown of what became known as Silicon Fen - a high tech cluster of businesses grouped around Cambridge University- and drawing on its talent pool.
The sale of Autonomy for $11bn to Hewlett-Packard was trumpeted as proof positive the UK could grow businesses to be the envy of the world's biggest tech giants.
The deal made its founders very rich and hopes were high that they would go on to propagate a new generation of businesses in the way Paypal alumni - such as Elon Musk and Peter Thiel - did in California.
However, within a year, HP declared Autonomy had been wearing the Emperor's new clothes. Revenues had been massively inflated, it said, and the US company wrote off nearly $9bn of the $11bn it had paid.
Mike Lynch has always denied the charges - saying any discrepancies were down to different accounting methods of recognising revenue.
