Defamation Impossible: Hackers Leak More Details on UK's Info War in Europe

International hacker group Anonymous went ahead with its efforts to counter what it calls Britain's interference with the domestic affairs of sovereign states. In a second dump of secret documents within two weeks, the hacktivists disclose more details on the ongoing UK-funded, anti-Russia information campaign spreading across Europe.

The second batch of documents leaked by Anonymous unravels more information on the activities of the Integrity Initiative (II), a UK-based NGO ostensibly founded to counter disinformation and defend democratic processes from malign influence. According to the first documents leaked by the hacktivist organization last month, the project was in fact a "large-scale information secret service" sponsored and created by London to tackle 'Russian propaganda.'

However, the latest leak suggests that "the British government goes far beyond and exploits the Integrity Initiative to solve its domestic problems inside the United Kingdom by defaming the opposition."

Discrediting UK Opposition

Anonymous refers to a "scorching" article that surfaced in The Times on November 25 and was dedicated to Seumas Milne, director of strategy and communications under UKIP leader Jeremy Corbyn. The Times' official Twitter account promoted the piece three times within 24 hours on social media — the only case for all of its articles, Anonymous says. The hacktivists add that the Integrity Initiative retweeted the "defamatory" article right after its publication (the post is now unavailable, but Anonymous provided a screengrab of the retweet).

Putin’s meeting with Trump in Washington out of question — Kremlin

The Kremlin says Vladimir Putin’s possible meeting with Donald Trump in Washington is out of question in the current situation

MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible meeting with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in Washington is out of question in the current situation, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, adding that the best option would be a meeting on the margins of an international summit.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the topic of Putin’s possible visit to the United States was raised at the two leaders’ talks in Helsinki this summer. "Back then, this possibility was looked at but now it is out of question. No one says a word about it because now general prospects for their next meeting are unclear," he said. "Critical mass of dialogue is needed for that, but now it is lacking."

"De facto, the easiest option is to meet on the sidelines of international multilateral forums," he said. "The next such event will be held in Osaka. It will be the next Group of Twenty summit, in six months. And it is an untenable pause both for our bilateral relations and for international security and stability."

Kremlin unveils agenda of canceled Putin-Trump meeting

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump were expected to discuss US possible withdrawal from the INF Treaty

MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in Buenos Aires that was called off by the US leader was geared to outline ways of dialogue on the United States’ possible withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"We expected this meeting between Putin and Trump, who could have discussed the process and outline ways to a potential dialogue on that topic. But, regrettably, as you know, the meeting never took place," he said.

The Kremlin spokesman expressed concern over possible impacts of the United States’ withdrawal from that treaty. In his words, "consequences can be very bad" from the point of view of both European and global security. "If the Americans ultimately withdraw from that treaty, there is a high risk, although now they deny it, that they will deploy these missiles in Europe. It means NATO’s expansion towards our borders. If missiles are deployed in Europe, Russia will be forces to take steps to ensure parity," Peskov said, adding that such "steps" would mean "targeting these missiles."

For the first time in 40 years, right-wing parties gain majority in large Spanish region

In a historic election in Andalusia yesterday, the establishment leftist ruling force, the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), failed to reach 40 seats for the first time.

More importantly, it has failed to gain a leftist majority since its far left ally, Adelante Andalucía (part of the Unidos Podemos formation), also fared poorly in yesterday’s elections.

In contrast, the centrist and right wing parties received enough votes to gain a majority in the Southern region’s parliament.

Even more astonishing than the breakthrough of the centre-right in a part of Spain that was virtually guaranteed to vote left, is the rise of what the Spanish media call “far right” VOX Party, led by Santiago Abascal, which gained 11% of the votes and 12 seats in the 109-seat Andalusian Parliament.

The centre-right party, Partido Popular (PP), the centrist Ciudadanos and the right wing VOX would total a comfortable majority of 59 seats in the Andalusian government – if they can reach an agreement.

Regardless of that, the far left are simply fuming over this result, as indicated by the leader of the far left formation Unidos Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, where he stated that “we must launch the anti-fascist alarm” on a night where his party lost 3 seats in Parliament and almost 300,000 votes.

Embarassingly, the left wing media outlets were mocked for “crying” over the terrible election results for their favoured party PSOE and the first resounding triumph of the populist VOX Party in Spain.

This early regional election result is a debacle for the PSOE which has been ruling in Spain since its soft coup this past summer, and it increases the pressure on the beleaguered President Pedro Sanchez to call elections much earlier than he had anticipated.

Given his terrible record so far in just six months, raising taxes, stifling growth and allowing an immigrant free-for-all on Spanish borders this may just be what Spain needs.
