Lautenberg Amendment (or Act, depending on who you're talking to), bars all convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from owning a gun. For life. The TRUE goal here is to make EVERYONE ineligible for gun ownership. Eventually it'll be "Got a 40 year-old DUI? Can't be trusted with a car, can't be trusted with a gun." They're already trying to add (or have added) other misdemeanors onto the list in states. It's really easy to start chipping away at the right rather than just eliminate it or serious curtail it outright.
