I am sick and damn tired of funerals this year.

Especially these long, drawn-out funeral week festivals that undeserving politicians and celebrities are getting.

Most tasteless, undignified thing I've ever seen.

Tacky, tacky, tacky.

Here's how I think it ought to go:

Day 1: Die

Day 2: Funeral home embalms, make arrangements for funeral service

Day 3: Funeral, with persons closest to deceased "going back to the house" for homemade food and as much as they want to drink

Things that are also inappropriate:

"Theme" funerals (should not need to be said, but people are incredibly stupid)

Multimedia presentations

Demented preachers who want to save some souls with an hour long sermon

Asking attendees to share brief anecdotes about their friendship/love for the deceased is alright, as long as it doesn't get too tawdry.

Note: Dress is "nice business", which means NO FLIP FLOPS. Anyone can get a suitable dress or suit at a thrift shop. Do not show up in blue jeans, a t-shirt with some stupid emblem on it, or something that strippers would wear. It's damn disrespectful.

Catered food for funerals is possibly THE tackiest thing ever. Yankees do this because they don't know any better.

Damn it. Lay out some fried chicken, potato salad and deviled eggs, and make sure the bar is stocked. DONE. If somebody gets drunk, either put them to bed or take them home. If the next of kin wants to take to their bed with a bottle of scotch to get the worst of the grieving done, that is THEIR business.

This traditional conservative southerner has had enough of everybody else's stupid traditions.

Black people, ya'll "keep them out" way too long. Too long is anything longer than 4 days unless there has been an ice storm or hurricane, or if MeeMaw has died on a Carnival Cruise and ya'll have to get her body shipped back.
