Most evidence for this is anecdotal, for obvious reasons. Most people commit crimes such as these in private, under great secrecy. It is hinted at in the writings and films of various famous individuals, including Hunter S. Thompson, Tom Sizemore, and others.
However, the more modern and radical "adrenochrome-harvesting" of today, is presumed to be much different to that of late. It is said that adrenochrome is extracted directly from glands in the human-body, however the facts suggest otherwise…
Have you heard of blood-libel? Or vampirism? While I believe the two are unrelated, I believe they share a common "thirst" for the highs/ecstasy that come with drinking the blood of a freshly sacrificed victim, either animal or human.
