On Monday morning, FBI agents raided the home of Democrat Mayor Frank Gilliam of Atlantic City, who only three weeks ago was reportedly in a fight outside a nightclub.

According to NJ.com, Doreen Holder, a public affairs specialist with the FBI’s Newark office, stated, “We can confirm that our agents were executing search warrant at the home of Mayor Frank Gilliam.” One source told NJ.com that about a dozen agents entered Gilliam’s home.

The alleged fight three weeks ago precipitated municipal criminal summons. In two of the summons, accusers of Gilliam said he allegedly swung at two people, but did not hit anyone; those summons also stated that Gilliam reportedly “kept trying to attack” one of the witnesses. Another witness said Gilliam chased the person around in a car. Atlantic City Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy II was also reportedly involved; he allegedly repeatedly punched a person in the face, hurled the person to the floor, and chased him. Another charge against him: threatening a woman, allegedly saying he would “f*** you up.”

The investigation moved from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office to avoid a conflict of interest.

Diamond smuggling scandal spotlights shadowy Israeli tycoon

A shadowy Israeli billionaire who made his fortune in the insular world of diamonds has suddenly found his empire in jeopardy after close associates were busted in a massive smuggling ring and an employee mysteriously plummeted to her death from his high-rise Tel Aviv office building.

Lev Leviev, known in Israel as the "king of diamonds," has enjoyed close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and has a reputation for generous philanthropy to Jewish causes. But now, Israeli police are demanding that he return from Moscow for questioning on allegations of smuggling, money laundering and tax offences.

It's a stunning downturn for one of Israel's most well-known tycoons. Born in the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan, the 62-year-old Leviev immigrated to Israel as a youth in 1971 and began working as an apprentice in a polishing plant in Israel's then-booming diamond industry.

His meteoric rise saw him later establishing a plant of his own, and striking deals in Angola and Russia that briefly undercut the DeBeers diamond giant. He later branched out to real estate, construction and chemicals, with his Africa-Israel holding and investment company becoming a powerful player in the Israeli market and establishing Leviev as a precursor to a wave of Jewish oligarchs from the former Soviet Union who have become power brokers in Israel.

Though his net worth is estimated at more than $1 billion, Leviev suffered heavy losses in recent years because of his massive investment in Russia, where he is known to enjoy strong government support.

Leviev, who moved to London a decade ago and recently relocated to Moscow, denies any allegations of impropriety and is currently negotiating terms of his return with Israeli police. .. more here

A suspicious powder was sent to the Bronx office of state Sen. Jose Serrano on Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of the building as a precaution, police sources told The Post.

The unknown substance was delivered to the senator’s office at 1231 Lafayette Ave. and discovered around 2:20 p.m., sources said. No one was immediately sickened by the powder, but the building was cleared as a precaution, they said.

Serrano represents the 29th District, which covers the Upper West Side, Central Park, Yorkville, Roosevelt Island, El Barrio and The Bronx.

Mueller's office to recommend sentencing for ex-Trump aide Flynn

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office will make a sentencing recommendation for former national security adviser Michael Flynn on Tuesday, in a court filing that is expected to shed light on the extent of Flynn’s cooperation in the Russia probe.

Flynn, who held the White House job for only 24 days, pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia. He will be sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Dec. 18.

He is so far the only member of President Donald Trump’s administration to plead guilty to a crime uncovered during Mueller’s wide-ranging investigation into Russian attempts to influence the 2016 U.S. election and potential collusion by Trump aides.

Others who have also since been charged by Mueller include Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and campaign deputy Rick Gates, as well as Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen who last week pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about a proposed Trump Organization skyscraper in Moscow.

Trump has called Mueller’s probe a witch hunt and has denied colluding with Russia. Moscow denies trying to interfere in the elections.

Flynn’s crime of lying to the FBI carries a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison. However his plea agreement states he is eligible for a sentence of zero to six months and can ask the court not to impose a fine.

Flynn, a retired army general, was forced to resign after he was found to have misled Vice President Mike Pence about discussions he had with Russia’s then-ambassador Sergei Kislyak.

Under a plea bargain deal, Flynn admitted in a Washington court that he lied when asked by FBI investigators about conversations with Kislyak just weeks before Trump took office.

Prosecutors said the two men discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia and that Flynn also asked Kislyak to help delay a U.N. vote seen as damaging to Israel.

Mueller’s office has had varied degrees of success with the level of cooperation it has received from defendants who have pleaded guilty.

Recently, prosecutors asked for another delay in sentencing Gates, citing his ongoing cooperation in multiple probes.

But Manafort could be facing a tough sentence after prosecutors last month alleged he had breached his plea deal by lying repeatedly to the FBI.

They are due to file court papers on Friday laying out their case for why Manafort should lose any credit when he is sentenced for his alleged failure to accept responsibility for his crimes.

Conservatives Call For Congress To Put $5B Toward Border Wall Construction

Conservatives across the country are calling for Congress to approve additional funding for the border wall.

More than 100 conservatives from political action groups signed a memo Tuesday, demanding a minimum of five billion dollars for the wall. They are also calling for an increase in funds for Customs and Border protection as well as funding for more immigration judges.
