2 attorneys general to subpoena Trump Organization, IRS

WASHINGTON (AP) — The attorneys general of the District of Columbia and Maryland plan to file subpoenas Tuesday seeking records from the Trump Organization, the Internal Revenue Service and dozens of other entities as part of a lawsuit accusing Donald Trump of profiting off the presidency.

The flurry of subpoenas came a day after U.S. District Court Judge Peter J. Messitte approved a brisk schedule for discovery in the case alleging that foreign and domestic government spending at Trump’s Washington, D.C., hotel amounts to gifts to the president in violation of the Constitution’s emoluments clause.

The subpoenas target more than 30 Trump-linked private entities and the federal agency that oversees the lease for Trump’s D.C. hotel. Subpoenas were also being sent to the Department of Defense, General Services Administration, Department of Commerce, Department of Agriculture and the IRS, all of which have spent taxpayer dollars at the hotel.

Other Trump entities that officials plan to subpoena include those related to his D.C. hotel and its management.

The Maryland attorney general’s office confirmed the targets of the subpoenas to The Associated Press as they were being prepared Tuesday.

The subpoenas focus on answering three questions: which foreign domestic governments are paying the Trump International Hotel in Washington, where that money is going and how Trump’s hotel is affecting the hospitality industry in the District of Columbia and Maryland.

To help answer those questions, the subpoenas are asking for records of payments to Trump from state government and federal agencies that patronized the hotel. They’re also seeking information proving that hotel revenues are going to the president through his affiliated entities, including The Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. Most of the records are being requested back to Jan. 1, 2015.

The Justice Department declined to comment. Neither the Trump Organization nor the White House immediately responded to a request for comment Tuesday.

Trump’s Justice Department lawyers have previously argued that earnings from such business activity as hotels stays don’t qualify as emoluments. And in court papers last week challenging the judge’s decision to move the case forward, Justice lawyers objected to any discovery on a sitting president in order to avoid a “constitutional confrontation.” They also argued that any discovery would “be a distraction to the President’s performance of his constitutional duties.”

Border Patrol Arrests 1900 Illegal Aliens Near Rio Grande Valley Over 4 Days

The United States of America's Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that they've arrested over 1900 illegal aliens over just the last weekend.

The enormous victory comes on the heels of an endless flow of illegal alien “caravan,” where would-be invaders planned to flock into the United States of America.

"The smugglers don't care for the individuals they're crossing, all they care about is the money. They see these as a commodity, not as people," said Border Patrol Agent, Marcelino Medina told local news affiliate CBS Channel 4 Valley Central.

The arrests began on November 30th, where Border Patrol Special Agents from the Weslaco Station rounded up 73 illegals near Hidalgo, Texas.

Amidst those arrests, included at least one verifiable MS-13 gang member, according to RGV Sector Chief Manuel Padilla, Jr.

MS-13 is a dangerous criminal gang comprised of bloodthirsty illegal aliens, whom last summer beheaded a 13-year-old autistic girl in Alabama and murdered the child's grandmother.

CO - Boy, 9, Gets Town To End Century-Old Ban on Snowball Fights

A “crusading” 9-year-old boy successfully lobbied a Colorado town to reverse nearly a century-old ban on snowball fights.

Dane Best persuaded leaders of the small northern Colorado town when he passionately presented his arguments at a town board meeting on Monday night. The young boy firmly told the leaders: “I think it’s an outdated law. I want to be able to throw a snowball without getting in trouble.”

With his convincing stance and powerful arguments, the members voted unanimously to lift the ban.

Thomson Reuters announces 3,200 job cuts over two years

Financial data and news agency Thomson Reuters announced Tuesday cuts of 3,200 jobs and dozens of office closures worldwide over the next two years as part of a restructuring.

Executives told an investor conference in Toronto that the staff reduction would impact 12 percent of its workforce, while the number of its offices would be reduced by 30 percent to 133 locations.

“The majority of employees have already been notified,” spokesman David Crundwell told AFP.

He said Thomson Reuters routinely looks to streamline its operations. “This disciplined approach sometimes includes the need to make personnel, or other, changes which allow us to balance our internal resources with the needs of our customers in a highly competitive environment,” he said.

The markets welcomed the company’s cutbacks, sending Thomson Reuters stock up 1.17 percent to $50.40 at around 1830 GMT in Toronto and New York.

The announcement comes after the company sold a 55 percent stake in its financial and risk unit to private equity firm Blackstone Group in order to focus on its legal and tax businesses.

Thomson Reuters is also one of the world’s largest news services, ahead of The Associated Press and Agence France-Presse, but its news operations account for only six percent of the company’s total revenues.

Last month, it reorganized its European news bureaus, laying off journalists in France, Germany and Italy.

Newswire clients including newspapers, television, radio and online have been struggling with an erosion of readership and plummeting advertising revenues.

In October, AFP announced cuts of 125 positions or five percent of its workforce over five years in a bid to return to black.

Anti-vaccine Italian Government Sacks Entire Health Expert Board

The vaccine-skeptic Italian government has sacked every member of the country’s health advisory board, raising fears that the populist administration will sideline accepted science and inflict long-lasting damage on public health.

Health minister Giulia Grillo removed all 30 members of the Higher Health Council Monday, arguing it is time to “give space to the new,” The Guardian reported.

The council is the country’s most prominent body of technical-scientific experts, who advise the government on health policy.

Grillo is a member of the Five Star Movement (MS5)—the senior party in Italy’s ruling coalition, which has previously supported unproven cures for cancer and promised to overturn laws making vaccines mandatory for children.

Explaining her decision, Grillo wrote on Facebook, “We are the #governmentofchange and, as I have already done with the appointments of the various organs and committees of the ministry, I have chosen to open the door to other deserving personalities.”

Among those removed from their posts is former council president, Roberta Siliquini, who also serves as the head of the school of hygiene and preventive medicine at the University of Turin.

Siliquini told The Guardian: “We are worried about why they have decided to remove people who were selected due to their experience and competencies at the highest level.” She added, “We are also worried about who will make up the next council and especially if the nominations are politically motivated.”

The members of the board usually serve three-year terms, and it is unusual for them to be cut short, especially with such little explanation. Grillo wrote that some members “could be reappointed,” but “not the leaders…who must have the trust of and be in full harmony with the minister in charge.”

Siliquini said she had never met Grillo since the new minister was appointed six months ago. “We’re the organisation that helps them, from a scientific and technical point of view, to make decisions on policy,” Siliquini explained. “But she never asked us anything during these six months, which was probably a strong signal.”

MS5 came to power earlier this year on a wave of anti-establishment sentiment, allying with the far-right Lega Nord party to lead an unlikely populist coalition. The party’s health care policy has prompted concern by seemingly dismissing swathes of accepted science and instead embracing conspiracy theories and fraudulent medicine.

MS5 has previously lent support to a controversial stem-cell therapy—known as Stamina—promoted by psychologist Davide Vannoni, who claimed it could perform miracles and cure diseases including cancer. Experts since claim to have proven the therapy is a scam.

Current Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte also has links to the scam, having represented a the family of a girl with a degenerative disease in 2013, calling on the government to allow her access to Stamina treatment.

MS5—then still a burgeoning force—seized on the debate to accuse the establishment of withholding new medical treatments from ordinary citizens, despite having no evidence that the method even worked.

The party’s vaccine-skepticism has also been well-publicized. During this year’s election campaign, MS5 promised to reform a law that made 10 vaccines mandatory and required a doctor’s note to confirm the injections. In June, Grillo said parents could “self-certify” that their children had been vaccinated and waved the requirement for doctor confirmation.

This caused chaos when the new school year began in September, with thousands of children with compromised immune systems forced to stay at home for fear that classmates had not been vaccinated against potentially deadly diseases.

But a fresh measles epidemic has forced the government into a U-turn. Authorities have now said the vaccines obligation will remain in place and have called for 800,000 infants, children and young adults to be injected against the virus, The Telegraph noted.

Ex-Marine admits he lured Seth Rich Investigator Jack Burkman to a hotel parking garage, then shot him

A man who worked as an investigator for conspiracy theorist Jack Burkman will serve nine years in prison for shooting and wounding his ex-boss in a complicated plot involving a fake FBI exposé.

Kevin Doherty, 46, said little as Judge William T. Newman Jr. sentenced him Monday for malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony, but he acknowledged the veracity of a set of facts read by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Evie Eastman detailing his “serious falling out” with Burkman and the “grand ruse” he concocted in revenge.

Eastman said Doherty lured Burkman to a hotel parking garage in March with the false promise of turning over details of FBI misconduct.

“It was all pretend,” Eastman said.

During the hearing in Arlington Circuit Court, Newman imposed a 23-year prison term with 14 years suspended. In addition, Doherty, who pleaded guilty to both charges, must pay back with interest the $15,000 Burkman gave him for the nonexistent FBI documents.

Burkman told The Washington Post in March that he hired Doherty, a onetime Marine, to investigate the death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich. Burkman, a Republican lobbyist, has enmeshed himself in a conspiracy theory that Rich was killed for handing Democratic emails over to WikiLeaks. Law enforcement has deemed the homicide a botched street robbery, and Rich’s family has repeatedly sued right-wing news outlets for falsely reporting otherwise.

Doherty was supposed to build a psychological profile of Rich’s possible killer, but Burkman said in March that he and Doherty quickly came to loggerheads over control of the project. Burkman fired Doherty in July 2017.

In court, Eastman described the plot Doherty executed months later and how police tracked him down. Doherty sent Burkman emails pretending to have information “detrimental to the FBI.” Burkman paid Doherty $15,000 and arranged to pick up the documentation from under a traffic cone at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington on March 13.

When Burkman leaned over to get the documents, Eastman said, Doherty shot him twice in the buttocks with a rifle. Burkman fled up a parking ramp, carrying the traffic cone and his dog, Jack Jr. Doherty admitted he then ran down his former employer from behind the wheel of a black SUV.

Burkman suffered a broken arm, and two bullets remain lodged in his buttocks, Eastman said. His dachshund was not harmed.

Doherty drove off before police arrived, but Eastman said the black SUV was spotted in the garage on hotel security cameras before the attack. A man was seen leaving the vehicle and putting several items in a nearby trash can.

Inside the can, police found a shipping box addressed to Doherty and a handwritten note on calibrating a new weapon, along with fuel filters and ammunition.

Police quickly learned that Doherty had rented a large black SUV from Hertz at Reagan National Airport that morning. Hertz’s GPS tracking showed that the vehicle had been driven to the Marriott and then took a “circuitous route” to Boston after the attack, Eastman said. She said Doherty returned the SUV in Boston and got a new rental car.

Republicans Hired DNC’s Cyber-Firm CrowdStrike, Got Hacked in 2018

The emails of four National Republican Congressional Committee senior officials were stolen in a hack that was detected in April 2018, according to Politico.

The NRCC had previously hired CrowdStrike, which allowed Democratic National Committee emails to be stolen even after the 2016 hack was detected.

Crowdstrike did not detect the NRCC breach — another vendor did.

The National Republican Congressional Committee was hacked during the 2018 election after hiring CrowdStrike, the cyber-firm that the Democratic National Committee employed that allowed DNC emails to be stolen even after the 2016 hack was detected.

The emails of four top NRCC officials were stolen in a major hack that was detected in April — eight months ago, Politico reported Tuesday. The NRCC did not tell Republican leaders or the public that it had been hacked, though it did notify the FBI.

The NRCC would not say what information was compromised.

“We don’t want to get into details about what was taken because it’s an ongoing investigation,” a senior party official told Politico. “Let’s say they had access to four active accounts. I think you can draw from that.”

Politico reported that a different vendor, not CrowdStrike, finally detected the hack:

The hack was first detected by an MSSP, a managed security services provider that monitors the NRCC’s network. The MSSP informed NRCC officials and they, in turn, alerted Crowdstrike, a well-known cybersecurity firm that had already been retained by the NRCC.

The NRCC paid Crowdstrike at least $120,000 in 2017, according to campaign finance records.

CrowdStrike was responding to the DNC’s hack as of May 5, 2016, but emails continued to be stolen for weeks. In fact, the majority of the emails WikiLeaks published were not even written until after May 5. That’s despite the fact that CrowdStrike claimed it knew within minutes that the problem was a specific virus and that it was tied to Russia.

CrowdStrike, which is led by a Russian ex-pat and a former FBI official, took until June 10, 2016, to replace all the software in a move it believed would put an end to the breach. The last DNC email WikiLeaks published was written on May 25.

Then-DNC head, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz — without even informing the DNC’s own board — reportedly refused to let the FBI examine the server and instead had CrowdStrike investigate the breach.

“I just hate Crowdstrike so much,” a former senior Democrat information security professional told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Their incompetence just makes me sigh.”

He also faulted the NRCC for selecting the firm and for not learning from history.

“Apparently the NRCC didnt pay attention to security hygiene for their senior staff,” he said. “This is a continuous problem for senior political staff that think that they’re too senior to have to need good security practices; they’re not technical enough to follow thru with good security practices; or that it’s too much of a hassle to commit to good security practices.”

Fate of #NeverTrump Magazine The Weekly Standard Uncertain – May Close Operations Within Weeks

The fate of NeverTrumper magazine The Weekly Standard is uncertain according to sources who say the operations may close within a few weeks.

Trump-hater and The Weekly Standard’s Editor-at-Large Bill Kristol has spent the last 2 and a half years bashing Trump and aligning with leftists.

It turns out that bashing Trump everyday isn’t a successful business model for a conservative magazine.

Chief White House Correspondent for One America News Emerald Robinson reported Tuesday that The Weekly Standard is expected to close its operations in a few weeks.

EMERALD ROBINSON: BREAKING: Multiple sources tell me that neocon magazine @weeklystandard is expected to close its operations in a few weeks. It had lost many subscribers since the 2016 election as its #NeverTrumper editors @BillKristol @stephenfhayes @SykesCharlie publicly aligned with the Left.

CNN reported that The Weekly Standard’s leadership spent months looking for a buyer.

The fate of The Weekly Standard, the conservative magazine that has staked out a position as a publication on the right still critical of President Donald Trump, is uncertain, Editor-in-Chief Stephen Hayes told staff in a series of phone calls Tuesday, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The magazine’s precarious position comes after its leadership spent months searching for a buyer, the people told CNN.

The people explained that The Weekly Standard’s leadership had butted heads with MediaDC, the current parent company of the magazine, and that the two parties had agreed to allow Hayes to search for a new owner.

However, MediaDC recently informed The Weekly Standard’s leadership that the company was no longer interested in a sale, the people said.
