‘Smoking saw’: After CIA briefing, Senators confident MBS behind Khashoggi killing

A secret briefing by CIA Director Gina Haspel seems to have solidified the belief of several senators that Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman is personally responsible for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Haspel appeared on Capitol Hill on Tuesday to brief a dozen or so senators on intelligence the CIA had about Khashoggi’s death at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey two months ago.

“I have zero question in my mind that the Crown Prince MBS ordered the killing, monitored the killing, knew exactly what was happening. Planned it in advance. If he was in front of a jury he would be convicted in 30 minutes. Guilty,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tennessee), who currently chairs the Foreign Relations committee, said after the briefing.

“It's not a smoking gun, it's a smoking saw,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), referring to media reports that Khashoggi was dismembered with a bone saw inside the consulate.

“It is zero chance, zero, that this happened in such an organized fashion without the [Saudi] crown prince,” Graham added.

UN Climate Summit To Emit More CO2 Than 8,200 American Homes Do In A Year

The U.N.’s climate summit will emit as much carbon dioxide as more than 8,200 American homes.

It’s also equivalent to more than 11,700 cars driving for one year or 728 tankers trucks worth of gasoline.

When air travel is factored in, the summit’s emissions are likely higher, according to one expert.

This year’s United Nations climate summit will have a carbon footprint equivalent to the yearly electricity usage of more than 8,200 American households, according to the international body’s own figures.

The U.N. estimates the summit, called COP24, will emit 55,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide — the very greenhouse gas U.N. officials are trying to keep from accumulating in the atmosphere.

Based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) figures, that’s the equivalent of more than 11,700 cars driving for one year or 728 tanker trucks worth of gasoline. That amount of CO2 emissions is also the same as 8,243 American homes for an entire year, according to EPA.

However, that’s a low-ball estimate because it only includes the emissions from the conference itself, and not emissions associated with the thousands of people who flew to the meeting in Katowice, Poland. More than a few summit-goers, including celebrities, likely flew private jets.

When those emissions are factored in, COP24’s carbon footprint is likely much higher, according to environmental economist Richard Tol.

“[It is] probably unusually high as Katowice would require multiple stops for anyone who’s not from Europe,” Tol told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The high carbon footprint only contributes to the U.N.’s hypocritical image. Indeed, a former U.N. environment director was forced to resign in November over his extensive, costly travel while warning the world of the need to cut emissions to stem global warming.

U.N. officials spent the past few months hyping COP24 as one of the last chances humanity has to avoid catastrophic global warming. A U.N. report issued in October suggested a $27,000 per ton carbon tax might be needed by the end of the century to stem warming.

Tol also estimated COP24’s cost to top $130 million, but Tol considers that to be an underestimate because whole new facilities, basically a town, had to be built to accommodate tens of thousands of people.

“There’s 30,000 people in Katowice — 1,300 person-years. I’d put that at $130 million,” Tol said via email. “That’s an underestimate, as they build a new town.”

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend COP24, which kicked off Monday, in Poland. For 12 days, U.N. officials, diplomats, environmentalists and journalists will eat up electricity and fuel traversing thousands of square meters of temporary structures set up to house the summit.

Goldman Nearly Lost $800 Million During A Trade With Indicted 1MDB-Linked Bank

If there was any doubt that Goldman Sachs' compliance controls "don't work very well", as Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad wryly stated during an interview with CNBC last month, this should put it to rest. And as the Vampire Squid's lax compliance standards (the bank's compliance department was unwilling or unable to stop then-CEO Lloyd Blankfein from holding a one-on-one sit down with a shady Malaysian financier accused of stealing billions from the sovereign wealth fund, all in the name of landing a lucrative deal) have emerged as a focal point in a DOJ investigation into the bank's conduct.

On Tuesday Bloomberg highlighted another troubling detail that raises questions about when the bank's willingness to circumvent its own internal controls to win deals of placate valuable clients.

US fully aware that Russia abides by INF Treaty, says diplomat

MOSCOW, December 4./TAS/. Russia abides by the provisions of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and the US knows this, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday in comments on recent statements by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

"Russia scrupulously abides by the provisions of the treaty, and the US side knows this," she stressed.

Michael Pompeo announced on Tuesday that the US would stop adhering to the treaty unless Russia returns to compliance with it within 60 days. "The United States declares today it has found Russia in material breach of the treaty and will suspend our obligations as a remedy effective in 60 days unless Russia returns to full and verifiable compliance," Pompeo told a NATO meeting. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that time is running out for Russia to comply with the missile treaty.

US President Donald Trump said on October 20 that his country would quit the INF Treaty because Russia was allegedly in breach of that agreement. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov described this as a dangerous move. Washington was also criticized in Berlin and Beijing. In the meantime, London came out in support of the United States and NATO placed the responsibility for Trump’s decision on Russia, because in its opinion Moscow had apparently violated the treaty.

The INF Treaty was signed on December 8, 1987 and took effect on June 1, 1988. It outlawed deployed and non-deployed intermediate range (1,000-5,000 kilometers) and shorter range (500-1,000 kilometers) ground-based missiles.

In recent years, Washington has repeatedly alleged Russia was in breach of the agreement. Moscow emphatically dismissed the charges and countered them with its own claims over the United States’ non-compliance.

Billionaire Heiress Pays Lawyers for NXIVM Leaders in Sex-Trafficking Case, Prosecutors Allege Conflict

Clare Bronfman, heiress to the Seagram fortune, has been paying lawyer fees for leaders of the NXIVM secret society who are standing trial for sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Prosecutors argued the lawyers may face a conflict of interest, partly because Bronfman is also one of the defendants.

“The government has been advised that the legal fees of the defendants in this case, as well as certain witnesses, including Nxivm the corporation, have been paid by an irrevocable trust … to which defendant Clare Bronfman is the primary contributor,” the prosecutors wrote in a Nov. 30 court filing.

New York-based NXIVM masqueraded as a self-help company that ran “executive success programs” and other self-help curricula. In fact, the society functioned as a boot camp of sorts for recruiting personal slaves for its leader Keith Raniere.

NXIVM recruited members on the condition they gave up personal information about themselves, including compromising images or videos, as “collateral.” Once inside, members were regularly required to provide additional collateral to ensure they kept secret the society’s activities and inner workings, according to a May 23 court document.

The defendants deny the charges.

Bronfman was the group’s largest financial backer, contributing at least $150 million, according to Frank Parlato, a whistleblower who first broke the story about the society’s schemes.

Aside from Bronfman and Raniere, the defendants include Allison Mack, Kathy Russell, Lauren Salzman, and Nancy Salzman.

The prosecutors said “defendants’ counsel faces a potential conflict of interest” because third-party funding “‘may subject an attorney to undesirable outside influence’ and raises an ethical question ‘as to whether the attorney’s loyalties are with the client or the payor.’”

Assad: Steadfastness of independent states can restore balance to international arena

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says independent countries are capable of changing the international arena and restoring balance to it by remaining steadfast in their battle against Western plots.

Speaking in a meeting with the visiting North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho in Damascus on Tuesday, the Syrian leader said that despite the difference in the forms of wars and pressure to which Syria and North Korea have been exposed, their essence and purpose is the same: to weaken the countries that have an independent goal and stand in the face of Western projects.

President Assad further said such wars are not just about Syria and North Korea, but for redrawing the map of the world, adding that the US hostility towards all the independent states of the world, including Syria and the North, knows no geographical limits.

Ri, for his part, relayed to the Syrian president and people a verbal message from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, expressing Pyongyang’s firm support for Damascus and offering congratulations over the victories the Syrian army has so far achieved in its years-long fight against terrorists, including the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group.

The North Korean foreign minister also briefed the Syrian president about the North’s foreign policy, noting that the enemy which North Korea, Syria, and all other independent and independence-seeking countries have in common is hegemony and foreign interference, which requires increasing coordination among those countries to confront foreign plots.

The pair also touched upon the historical friendship and relations between the two countries, stressing that both Damascus and Pyongyang are resolute to enhance them. They also affirmed the need to maintain coordination in international circles to confront challenges and unjust sanctions.

Clinton Pal Jeffrey Epstein, sexual abuser of dozens of girls, settles case, apologizes; FBI Informant Walks Free

What? You thought a Clinton Cartel member would stand trial?

And run the risk of exposing the Clintons?

Not a chance, folks.

A trial that could have allowed the victims of serial molester Jeffrey Epstein to finally tell their stories from a witness stand was aborted Tuesday when it was announced in court that the case had been settled.

It ended with an apology — not to the dozens of women who were sexually abused by Epstein as underage girls, but to the lawyer who represented them.

Epstein was also, for years, feeding intelligence to the FBI in return for not being investigated and prosecuted.

There is also a monetary settlement, which is undisclosed.
