Syrian Troops Eliminated 23,000 Militants In 2018: Russian General Staff

In 2018 Syrian troops eliminated 23,000 militants and liberated 387 settlements in Syria, Head of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov said during a briefing for foreign military attaches on December 5.

Gerasimov recalled that Syrian government forces, who had gained considerable combat experience under the leadership of Russian military advisers, successfully carried out operations to take control of the Eastern Ghouta, Homs and southern de-escalation zones.

He added that more than 40,000 members of “moderate” opposition armed groups joined the government forces. Additionally, militants voluntarily surrendered 650 weapons and military equipment to the Syrian Army.

“The decisive role was played by the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties. During operations, over 230,000 people were taken out of de-escalation zones through specially created humanitarian corridors,” the General Staff Head stressed.

Gerasimov also adressed the situation on the eastern bank of the Euphrates where the US is reportedly trying to create a Kurdish quasi-state formation.

“The situation on the eastern border of the Euphrates is deteriorating. The United States, falling back on Syrian Kurds, is trying to create a quasi-state formation independent from the central government there. They are already forming the government of the so-called Democratic Federation of Northern Syria. Americans support Kurds’ separatist aspirations by delivering weapons and military equipment to them, and they are thus allowing Arabic tribes’ oppression by Kurds”, he said.

The general went on saying that ISIS terrorists in Syria are mostly present east of the Euphrates, in US-controlled territory.

“In December last year, the active phase of the operation to eliminate gangs in Syria was completed. Today, Daesh [ISIS] militants are only east of the Euphrates, on the territory controlled by the United States”, Gerasimov said.

“The United States is always telling us about some fight against Daesh in the east of Syria. But we are seeing the opposite. ‘Sleeping’ terrorist cells have become active and as a result, Daesh has begun expanding its zone of influence in the east of the country.“

On December 10, the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony will be held in Oslo, the capital of Norway. This analysis will try to look at how the prize fits into the bigger picture, but first, some general background is appropriate:

Norway is a member of NATO and has close ties to the United States and Great Britain. The political, economic and bureaucratic elites are firmly integrated in transatlantic networks, a nexus of economic connections, think tanks, international institutions, media and a thousand other ties that bind. They tend to identify with the liberal wing of the empire, (i.e. the Democrats, not the Republicans), but will work with any US administration. The members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee are selected by the Norwegian parliament, and the Committee is nominally independent.

Despite being considered – and where the population considers itself – a ‘peace nation’, there are few countries that have eagerly joined more wars than Norway, from the attack on Yugoslavia in 1999, Afghanistan 2001, the occupation of Iraq, Mali, Libya 2011 and the ongoing occupation of Syria. Norway spends large sums of money supporting the joint Western effort to control the rest of the world through comprador intermediaries in non-governmental organizations.

That the selection of winners conforms to US views does not mean that there is a direct influence, although some recommendations to the Committee probably weigh heavier than others. Rather this pattern is a sign of how well socialized the Norwegian Nobel Committee members are in the transatlantic world view, where ‘our’ requirements override any genuine wish for peace.

Israel Must Leave Occupied Territories in Southern Lebanon - Beirut

A representative of the Lebanese army said on Wednesday during a trilateral meeting with the Israeli military and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) that Israel must leave occupied territories in southern Lebanon, a statement of the Lebanese Armed Forces seen by Sputnik said.

"The Lebanese army insisted on the position of the Lebanese government, which protects the Lebanese sovereignty on the ground, at sea and oil fields. The violations of [the Lebanese] airspace, marine and land borders by rival Israel and regular provocations are unacceptable. [We] made a demand to stop that. Once again [we] demanded the withdrawal [of Israeli forces] from the Shebaa farms, Kfarchouba heights and the occupied part of the al-Ghajar settlement," the Lebanese Armed Forces said.

The Lebanese army has also asked for more details about the Hezbollah tunnels in the border area.

Earlier in the day, the UNIFIL said that participants of the trilateral meeting had discussed the situation around the Israeli operation against tunnels of the Hezbollah Shia movement.

On Tuesday, the Israel Armed Forces announced the launch of operation dubbed Northern Shield aimed at destroying the trans-boundary tunnels dug by the Hezbollah movement to secretly transfer its militants to Israel.

The French government says it has dropped the fuel tax hike plan that has sparked massive Yellow Vests protests and eventually got suspended with a half-year moratorium Tuesday – at least for the 2019 budget.

“The government is ready for dialogue and is showing it because this tax increase has been dropped from the 2019 budget bill,” French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe told the lower house of parliament Wednesday.

133 kilogram US woman admits murdering boyfriend by smothering him with her stomach fat

A 133 kilogram US woman murdered her boyfriend by smothering him with her stomach during a row, a court heard.

Windi Thomas pleaded guilty to the third-degree murder of Keeno Butler, who died from suffocation.

Thomas, 44, also hit Mr Butler with a table leg during the fight, a court in Pennsylvania was told.

She then lay on top of her boyfriend, who weighed around nine stone, and used her stomach to prevent him from breathing, Jet 24 reports.

Thomas entered her plea in Erie County court on Monday (Tuesday AEDT), agreeing to a recommended sentence of between 18 and 36 years, depending on behaviour.

Her defence lawyer claims she had been drinking and then passed out on top of 44-year-old Mr Butler, accidentally killing him.

Lawyer Mark Del Duca added that it was not her intention to kill her partner.

He added: “The actual cause of death is she collapsed on him and he basically died of suffocation."

he claimed to have woken later and realised what she had done and called police herself.

Prosecutors say she had also stabbed him in the hand and head and beat him severely in the head with the table leg.

Thomas will be sentenced on December 21.

Ungrateful Honduran Illegal Migrant Who Complained About Mexican “Pig Food” — Is Seen Dining in Dallas, Texas

In November ungrateful Honduran migrant “Lady Frijoles” upset her Mexican caretakers when she complained to reporters about the free beans and tortillas provided to the members of the caravan camping out in Tijuana, Mexico.

The Honduran woman interviewed by the reporter described the free meals given to her as ‘pig food.’

“The food that they’re handing out here is terrible. Refried beans? As if they were feeding the pigs. If we don’t eat this, we will die of hunger,” the ungrateful Honduran migrant said.

It was later discovered the woman was hardly a “refugee” and lived a comfortable life in Honduras.

Mirian Celaya, the infamous “Lady Frijoles,” later went missing. Of course, many leftists and illegal migrant supporters thought she was the victim of violence.

Nope.

This weekend Mirian was filmed in Dallas, Texas eating at a local restaurant.

Her sister posted video on Instagram of the two sisters in Dallas.

When everyone wondered where Mirian Celaya is, the Honduran migrant who despised Mexican beans, she was already crossing to the US.

And in the last hours have circulated videos of the Honduran controversy with his sister, celebrating his arrival in the ‘American dream’.

“Here is my sister, for all those who hurt my sister, all those who said she was dead,” says Mirian’s sister in tears.

Journalist warns Macron crisis could lead to right-wing takeover of Europe

A French journalist from The Guardian has called on people to help France’s weakened and beleaguered President Emmanuel Macron instead of showing hatred or scorn over the “gilets jaunes [yellow vests]predicament”.

Whilst she admits he’s made errors which have given life to the feeling that they were ‘the invisible’ being treated with contempt by Parisan elites, she predicts that this could give rise to “extremists” who are seeking “a political takeover of Europe in next May’s European Parliament elections”.

She considers this the greater evil, not just for France but the entire continent. “Just as a weakened Merkel didn’t do much to help Macron in relaunching the European project, a weakened Macron will now provide new fodder for extremists and populists across the continent.

If we don’t find solutions, the EU election in France risks becoming a referendum against Macron”, her article states, warning that anti-establishment and right-wing forces are waiting in the wings.

A recent poll shows that 69 per cent are against using violence in the protests, however 72 per cent support the “yellow vest” movement which has taken place since 17 November in France, as well as, having spread to other EU countries.

As well, whilst The Guardian’s Natalie Nougayrède fears it means the ‘far-right’ will use this as some sort of power-grab, the ‘yellow vests’ have grown out of both left and right-wing groups.

Young girls in Finland are increasingly groomed and abused by adult migrant men – Police issue warning

Oulu police have recently been informed of dozens of cases of adult men attempting to lure young girls online.

Police are saying that men with foreign-backgrounds and poor Finnish-language skills are contacting “significantly younger” girls in the area, resulting in aggravated sexual abuse.

This has prompted their cautioning young girls and their parents about online predators at a time when nine men are under suspicion of raping and sexually abusing young girls.

There are currently three cases of migrant men suspected of sexually abusing children in Oulu. One such case involved sexually exploiting a 10-14 year old girl over several months and in all of the cases the rapes and sexual abuse were against children under the age of 15.

In all of the cases, the suspects are refugees or asylum seekers, according to police. Some have received Finnish citizenship, received refugee status or awaiting asylum decisions.

Detective Superintendent Markus Kiiskinen was careful to add to their warning: “I hope this will not result in more racism. The police would like to emphasise that not all people with foreign backgrounds are dishonest or criminals”.

Their hope is that parents will take an interest in who their children are spending time with both online and off.
