That's a good question anon. I've thought about that lately.
Only thing I can think of is if he's trying to be as impartial as possible for his new role as chair of Senate Judiciary. Taking over for Grassley. When the hammer drops he will be center stage on much of this and the public will need to know he's somewhat bipartisan.
