It's a very tightly controlled narrative - they try to paint Khashoggi as "American Resident" instead of Saudi Citizen, they say he's a Journalist instead of a C_A killer and dissident, and their demanded outcome is the removal of MBS (else no more USA weapons).
If it were genuine concern, there would be more open dialog about who he really was, and there would be a potentially infinite range of (more appropriate) sanctions
