In the city of León, Mexico, where he was teaching English during 1970 as part of a foreign exchange program, Bush met Columba Garnica Gallo.[8] They were married on February 23, 1974, in Austin, Texas.[8][165][166] As of 2014, the family residence is in Coral Gables, Florida.[167] Bush is fluent in Spanish.[168]
The Bushes have three children: George Prescott (born April 24, 1976, in Texas),[169][170] went to Gulliver Preparatory School, studied at Rice University, and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas School of Law. In the 2014 election, he was elected Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office.[169] Noelle Lucila Bush (born 1977) is his only daughter. In November 2015, while campaigning in New Hampshire, Bush detailed Noelle's struggles with drug abuse.[171] His other son, Jeb Bush Jr. (born 1983), who attended Bolles School,[8] works for a Miami, Florida, commercial real estate firm. Bush has four grandchildren, two through his elder son, and two through his younger son.[172]
In 1995, Bush converted from Episcopalianism to Roman Catholicism.[173] In 2004, he became a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.[174] Bush, a member of Father Hugon Council 3521 in Tallahassee, has joined the Father Hugon Assembly.[175]
In April 2018, upon mother Barbara Bush's death, Bush delivered a eulogy on behalf of the family at her funeral.[176]
