Grassley Shuts Down ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal – Refuses to Call in Don Jr. For Questioning Over Fake News Articles

Democrat Senator Richard “Da Nang Dick” Blumenthal cited fake news stories from NPR and CNN in an effort to harass Don Jr. and drag him in for more questioning.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) destroyed minority Committee member Richard Blumenthal in a letter this week.

Grassley called out Blumenthal for citing the fake news article NPR ran where they blatantly lied by deceptively editing Don Jr.’s 2017 testimony.

Last Friday, NPR deceptively edited Don Jr.’s testimony to make it appear his account of the Trump Organization’s plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow were inconsistent with Michael Cohen’s testimony.

Blumenthal jumped on the story and Don Jr hit back hard after NPR admitted the story was false.

NPR purposely conflated two separate endeavors the Trump Organization pursued in their efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. The first effort included negotiations with Russian Real Estate mogul, Aras Agalarov which ended in 2014. The second effort to build a tower in Moscow involved Michael Cohen and businessman Felix Sater – this second effort took place from 2015-2016.

Fake news NPR then issued a huge correction to their story, but this didn’t stop Da Nang Dick from citing the news story as evidence Don Jr lied to Congress.

This is precisely why CNN, NPR, New York Times roll out fake news articles – Democrat lawmakers cite these damaging stories as a reason to harass Trump and his family with congressional hearings and depositions.

Blumenthal also cited a fake news article from CNN that was published in July which used Clinton sewer dweller attorney Lanny Davis as its ‘anonymous source.’ The Lanny Davis saga turned into a media circus and another CNN story collapsed.

Grassley SLAMMED Blumenthal for citing the fake news CNN story as evidence Don Jr. lied to Congress:

“Puzzlingly, your letter also cites yet another claim that was the subject of a high-profile retraction. You cited a CNN article from July 2018 to imply that Mr. Trump Jr. may have lied when he said he did not tell his father in advance about the June 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting. That CNN article cited an anonymous source to claim that Mr. Cohen had witnessed Mr. Trump Jr. tell his father about the meeting beforehand. That anonymous source was later revealed to be Lanny Davis, Cohen’s attorney, who retracted his claim in a bizarre media spectacle, which your office seems to have missed,” Grassley wrote.

Senator Grassley then pivoted to someone who actually did lie to Congress – Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson.

“Of course, where we do have actual evidence of misleading testimony in Committee interviews, we should treat it seriously,” Grassley said of Simpson.

After Grassley called out Blumenthal for citing fake news as an excuse to harass Don Jr., he said “In sum, I do not believe the examples you have cited warrant bringing Mr. Trump Jr. back in for an additional Committee interview. If you have more questions for him, Irespectfully suggest you write to his attorneys.”

EU’s top diplomat says INF Treaty key to European and global security

BRUSSELS, December 6. /TASS/. The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) is key to European and global security, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, held on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Italy’s Milan.

According to the EU diplomatic service, the two top diplomats "discussed the future of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, and the High Representative stressed that the Treaty is key to European and global security and that it is in all our interests that the Treaty is preserved and fully implemented."

Mogherini and Lavrov also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, the consequences of the Kerch Strait incident, the Syria issue and the situation surrounding the Iran nuclear deal.

INF Treaty situation

The INF Treaty, signed by the Soviet Union and the United States on December 8, 1987, took effect on June 1, 1988. It applies to deployed and non-deployed ground-based missiles of intermediate range (1,000-5,000 kilometers) and shorter range (500-1,000 kilometers). In the recent years, Washington has been repeatedly accusing Russia of violating the treaty. Moscow strongly dismissed the accusations and voiced its own claims concerning Washington’s non-compliance.

On October 20, US President Donald Trump said that Washington would pull out of the INF Treaty because Russia had allegedly violated it. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said it was a dangerous move. Berlin and Beijing criticized Washington, while London voiced its support for the US, and NATO laid the blame for Trump’s decision on Russia.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said on December 4 that Washington would suspend its obligations under the Treaty unless Moscow returned to "full and verifiable" compliance within 60 days.

Massachusetts Governor Calls to Suspend Judge Who Reportedly Helped Illegal Alien Avoid ICE

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is calling for the temporary removal of a state judge who is under investigation by a grand jury for appearing to be involved in helping an illegal alien arrested for drug charges escape from a federal immigration officer.

The alien, Jose Medina-Perez, appeared in court on drug charges and also faced a fugitive warrant for drunk driving in Pennsylvania.

Just minutes into the hearing, the illegal immigrant’s defense attorney requested to speak to the judge, Newton District Court Judge Shelley Joseph, at the bench. In whispers, the attorney said that his client was in danger of being deported, noting that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer was at the courthouse and that the agency had placed a detainer on Medina-Perez.

“ICE is going to get him,” the judge told the attorneys during the April 2 conversation, according to audio obtained by the Boston Globe. “What if we continue [the case]?” she added. Then, she told the clerk to turn off the courtroom’s audio recorder.

Minutes later, the illegal alien was escorted downstairs, released from custody, and let out a back door. He fled the scene and avoided ICE.

Trump to Roll Back Carbon Rule on New Coal Plants

The Trump administration is expected on Dec. 6, to roll back an Obama-era rule requiring new coal plants to slash carbon emissions, a move that could crack open the door in coming years for new plants fired by the fossil fuel.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made an “energy policy announcement” on Thursday. Andrew Wheeler, EPA’s acting administrator, spoke alongside Harry Alford, president of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, a long-time opponent of former President Barack Obama’s limits on carbon emissions.

The EPA proposed allowing new coal plants to emit up to 1,900 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt-hour of electricity.

The Trump proposal replaces an Obama-era standard allowing only 1,400 pounds of carbon per megawatt-hour.

Under the Obama rule, new coal plants would have to burn some natural gas and install carbon capture equipment or highly efficient technology that is not yet commercially available.

The U.S. government lists only two major coal plants being planned over the next four years as the industry has been discouraged by plentiful and less-expensive natural gas. That could change as President Donald Trump rolls back regulations.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell applauded the EPA, saying it would help families who work in the coal industry in his state of Kentucky. “Coal deserves a level playing field, and that’s what this White House is trying to accomplish,” McConnell said.

Myron Ebell, who led Trump’s EPA transition team last year, said Trump’s policies could allow new coal plants to be built in the next 5, 10 or 15 years.

The administration says coal plants can be made to burn coal far more efficiently. But high costs have made them uneconomic. The regulatory rollback comes ahead of the annual U.N. climate talks in Poland next week, where White House officials plan a panel on coal technology.
