Have been on Mayotte dig ongoing. There seem to be two ideas about the Mayotte situation: that is it man-made (original Nat-Geo article) or that it is some kind of volcanic artifact (conventional scientists commenting who seem somewhat eager to make it "natural").

You'd expect the scientific establishment to try to write this off, as they always do. So you have to be especially careful in "looking who you follow."
