the holy catholic Church with a small "c" is decidely not the roman catholic church. it is the universal church, that is the church as the body of Christ.
i would look for any issues in the point about the arian controversy. usually it is the nicean creed that gets recited and not the apostles creed as the apostles creed is considered incomplete if not incorrect. the incompleteness is in the failure to rule out arianism (which is the view that Christ is NOT fully God). current proponents of the view are the jehovah's witnesses. earlier proponents were the cathars.
in any case, i wouldn't base a view on the use of catholic (although it may be seen Romans as a vagueness that is useful to exploit).
