The principals of science and the laws of nature remain largely unchanged. You will see large strides in planetary protection in the next two decades. Also something you may find interesting as far as a 'break'. Almost no one believes in a higher power, or any sort of spiritual being. If by 'the war' you mean the largest war then it is the war within the United States that hasn't ended. It's not a traditional war, but many states have formed alliances to fight against the federal government and mostly attack through computer and intelligence warfare. It doesn't largely effect me since I am not on the western coast. There have been a few other noteworthy wars, China invaded Japan, Australia attempted to take New Zealand, what you know as Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines, and a civil war in Russia. Nothing has rivaled the second World War however.
