The mystery envelopes at GHWB’s funeral
I’ve seen a few claim these envelopes are invites to dinner afterwards, or donation requests by the church. The envelopes are neither.
GHWB’s funeral was a state funeral – a formal event.
A funeral’s equivalent to the white tie dinner.
The entire day, especially for the family of the deceased, is planned in advance. There would be no last minute – “hey guys lets grab a burger later” put in the hymnal. And, for the love of God, you would never see a donation request at a state funeral tucked into the hymnal.
Notice in the picture of Pence opening the hymnal… the mystery envelope is sideways (not protocol), it’s backwards (not protocol) and it’s unsealed (you could argue as to this being proper protocol or not). In fact I believe Clinton’s envelope actually fell out of the hymnal and into her lap – no way she was going to miss it.
Etiquette at formal events matters. These people regularly attend these types of formal events and would recognize the “oddness” those envelopes presented. That is why they all read them and not one put the envelope aside.
The presentation of the mystery envelope is so NOT proper protocol as to be cringe-worthy/tacky. It sticks out like a sore thumb. These envelopes were meant to be noticed and read. POTUS, Q and team did this deliberately. Precision.
