Anons watching the habbenings with the aircraft. This is a massive exercise which is testing a group of Weapons School students during their capstone exam. It's a massive airlift operation which is pulling in aircraft and personnel from all over the US. They've done all the planning and are now executing as part of this exercise to train as if it were for an actual combat mission. They woudn't all land at the same location. They'd be broken up into groups to egress the target area to avoid 'enemy' air defenses. That's why some land at McCarran, others land at Pendleton, etc. You're witnessing America's might in action. Be in awe because no other country in the history of the world can do this.

Imagine you have to go to war and plan for how you'll move troops and equipment halfway around the world into an unfriendly environment. You don't want your first time doing that to be your FIRST TIME. This is an exercise for that kind of situation. The Air Force Weapons School used to be only for Fighter Pilots. But now it's for everyone in the combat arms role in the Air Force. This exercise would have been planned by the Weapons School students and the units flying the operation were tasked to do so as part of this exercise. Gives the units a chance to test their ability to sortie a given amount of aircraft, fly to designated locations and perform whatever task they were assigned.

Think group project but on a MASSIVE scale. Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

One other point I'll make is that there are simulated air defenses which could anything from simulated surface to air missile launches to aircraft simulating the bad guys trying to shoot down incoming airlift. So there are most likely F-15/ F-22 up as well as F-16s and we already saw the A-10s. Probably some B-52s and also B-1s playing but they're not transmitting ADSB.

Well they don't have global power projection like the US does and they do have to refuel. Logical stop over point to refuel before heading across the pond to the US. Plus crew rest rules.

Sure but that would be pure speculation. My guess would be this is just an exercise. We've seen the AWACS birds up for the last couple days. They were probably working Air to Air guys 'softening' up the target area so the airlifters could come in safe and do their jobs.

Doubtful. That many C-130s would be hauling airborne troops, equipment, etc. for air drop in the AO. Then egress to their recovery base. Take it all in lads. This is military planning that you seldom see exercised. If you think this is cool you ought to see it play out in a VR headset :-D
