They had planned on someone getting rid of Trump that night & they would then use rule 9 which is procedures to replace a Presidential nominee who drops out of the race. Et tu brute??
They wanted to keep all of Trump's followers by holding same agenda-but not really deliver, as you can see in the emails. WHO else was involved other than Ryan's chief of staff & Pence's chief of staff?
