I was trying to be a little more prosaic, and not directly stating it may have been non-sentient visitors, of the massive kind.

 

Visitors that deliver massive amounts of energy into the earths atmosphere that would many orders of magnitude greater than the combined human arsenal, not once, but twice in ~3k years, enough to end the last ice age, leaving in goldilocks climate.

Have you ever looked at the Missoula plains and wondered what formed them. The Scablands in eastern Washington? The deeply etched limestone river canyons in Texas?

Well, it's kinda like having to babysit the neighbors idiot just past toddler explaining to you that the dirt he just dug up and was eating really, really tastes good, and you nod in agreement, as unless there is something hazardous in that dirt, you are not going to stop him. nor do you wish to partake of any.
