On October 28, 1886, President Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World).

 

The statue is a gift to the people of the United States from the people of France. The statue depicts Libertas, a Roman goddess of liberty.

Created by the artist Frederic Bartholdi and engineered by Gustave Eiffel (the guy that built the famous tower).
