If you are a high ranking member of the Deep State you view the Swamp as the way things have been for a very long time.
You spent your entire career maneuvering, making the proper alliances, justifying the greater good to explain the plausibility of all your actions.
Finally, you have made it to, or close to, the top.
Now is your time to wield authority.
If you can justify all of this it stands to reason that anybody who comes along and threatens the order must be stopped. Must be destroyed.
