Keep in mind that there is a boatload of small artifacts found there and collected (fishing wieghts, metal spheres that may have been artillery, a piece of jewelry here and there, as well as elephant remains (as described by plato). Also, there is a freshwater spring in the center island as described by plato.
And, remember that Herodotus places atlantis in present day northern africa as well.
I think its worth further exploration.
The gist of it is that two south african researchers actually went to the site and discovered COMPELLING evidence that this is in fact, the site.
Most people have only heard plato’s account that atlantis surrfered an eathquake and was put underwater.
For some reason people aren’t aware of what Plato said for the day after the presumed tsunami that all that was left of Atlantis was covered in MUD, inaccessible by boat, meaning that it is landlocked.
