NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (KABC) – Cal State Northridge police are continuing to investigate a mass shooting threat to the university following the discovery of another threatening message on the school's campus.

The new threat – a note found Monday night by a student in Sierra Hall – said a shooting will take place Wednesday at CSUN. The note threatens to kill as many people possible.

Toward the end of the note, it threatens killing professors and teachers for "making students depressed."

The note came to police's attention at 10:44 p.m., according to CSUN Police Chief Anne P. Glavin.

Campus police are receiving assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department on the matter, and the investigation is in its early stages, Glavin said. CSUN police said it does not believe there is an "imminent threat" to the campus.

Regardless, school officials are taking precautions. Faculty members who have exams scheduled for Wednesday have been instructed to "provide alternative examination options for their students that would not require students to be physically present on campus Wednesday," according to a statement by the university's president, Dr. Dianne F. Harrison.

Harrison added that the campus will remain open on Wednesday based on the threat assessment and current information from police. She encouraged employees who are affected to contact their supervisor.

"Sadly, the world in which we live requires we take threats of violence and expressions of hate seriously - even when there is no evidence to suggest that the threatened acts are likely to materialize," Harrison said in an earlier statement.

A mass shooting threat was written inside a bathroom at Cal State Northridge, prompting the university to investigate Wednesday.

The note's discovery comes days after racist and anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled inside a campus bathroom was found.

Last week, a student had discovered graffiti at Sierra Hall that read, "Mass shooting in Sierra Hall 12/12/18."

A swastika was scrawled under the message.

Images of the graffiti circulated on social media and police vehicles were seen patrolling the campus at night.

Increased patrols on the campus is expected Tuesday, with Harrison stating stepped-up law enforcement presence would continue as circumstances warranted.

"Though I am keenly aware some may object to an increase of police on our campus, it is my judgement that added law enforcement personnel is absolutely warranted," Harrison stated. "We need this measure of safety and reassurance at this time for our campus community."

The decision to keep the university open will be assessed daily, Harrison said.

Campus and police officials are investigating a second threat of violence against Cal State University Northridge in as many weeks.

The note, found at CSUN on Dec. 10, 2018, was sent to KTLA by several students.

The note, found at CSUN on Dec. 10, 2018, was sent to KTLA by several students.

The new threat came in the form of a handwritten letter found about 10:45 p.m. Monday in a classroom at Redwood Hall that indicated the shooting of students and professors on Wednesday.

CSUN police are investigating the incident. The Los Angeles Police Department is assisting with increase patrol around campus.

While the threat is not imminent, faculty who have finals scheduled for Wednesday have been directed to create alternative options for students so they do not have to be on campus, President Dianne F. Harrison said during a news conference Tuesday. The campus will remain open on Wednesday, she added.

The note, sent to KTLA from at least two CSUN students, read in part that the person making the threat was going to kill as many people as possible at CSUN and adjacent Northridge Academy High School on Dec. 12.

It is filled with spelling and grammatical errors.

“The teachers and proffessors [sic] are surely going to f** die for making students depreessed [sic] and giving us b* work that will never serve us good in life,” the threat read.

Cal State Northridge Department of Police Services Chief Anne Glavin couldn't say if the threat is credible or not credible because the investigation is still early and ongoing.

"If we do have a situation where we have someone using the threat of a mass shooting to get out of an exam, that’s absolutely abhorrent,” Glavin said Tuesday.

She said investigators are reviewing surveillance cameras around campus in an effort to find the person or people responsible for the incidents.

Last Thursday, a threat of a mass shooting was scrawled in black marker at a building on the campus. The message read “Mass shooting in Sierra Hall 12/12/18” and included a swastika. It was found in a men's bathroom on the third floor of Sierra Hall. Another message included the N-word.

Authorities do not believe the two threats were written by the same person.

"Neither of these threats are threats that we will bow down to," Galvin said.

Harrison called the threats and the graffiti "despicable acts" during the news conference Tuesday.

"Sadly, the world in which we live requires that we take threats of violence and expressions of hate seriously while not allowing us to deter us from our mission," the president said. "There is no place at CSUN for these cowardly acts that seek to intimidate others."
