Did some digging and found this paper from 1962 on adrenochrome and its physiological effects on animals as well as humans; findings were first reported to a Masonic Lodge, which isn't at all strange for a scientific paper.

Then I dug on its writer, Abram Hoffer; Hoffer used to drop acid with the guy who coined the phrase "psychedelic" (that writer is also cited in the paper, along with Hoffer) also came up with the idea to megadose with niacin for health…which reminded me of L. Ron Hubbard's Purification Rundown, which calls for megadoses of niacin. And we all know Hubbard was a closet occultist from his Babalon Working fuckery with Jack Parsons.
