E.W. Scripps Company’s Katz Networks is relaunching Court TV in May, having acquired brand assets including the 100,000-hour Court TV library from Turner Broadcasting. The 24/7 channel has secured over-the-air distribution agreements with local TV station groups that will allow it to reach over 50% of U.S. television households. “Today, while consumer interest in the real-life drama of true-crime programming is at an all-time high, there is no dedicated daily court coverage on television,” noted Jonathan Katz, president and CEO of Katz Networks. “We expect the new Court TV to fill that void on cable, satellite, over-the-air and over-the-top.” Court TV ended its original run in 2007 and was folded into truTV.
