Rahm Emanuel Says Pot And Casinos Should Help With Chicago’s Skyrocketing Debt

Now that his days in office are numbered, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel thinks he knows what would alleviate his city’s burgeoning debt — legalized marijuana and gambling revenue.

As Fox News reports, Emanuel suggested Wednesday that the city opt for legal weed and open a casino.

Emanuel said the debt problems in the city, caused by a pension fund that’s running out of money, is a “flashing yellow light of uncertainty” that prompts worry about the city’s financial future. Rahm mentioned that he has already raised Chicago’s taxes in an effort to tap into more revenue. According to the Chicago Tribune, pension payments are headed for a steep incline and Emanuel is even prepared to amend the state constitution to lower pension benefits for city workers.

“For the last seven-and-a-half years, we have worked together to stabilize, strengthen and secure Chicago’s pension funds, from our city’s pension funds, to our schools, to all of our sister agencies,” Emanuel told an audience at City Hall. “Together, we have been addressing this challenge honestly and forthrightly.”

WONDER WHO DID THIS???

Pictures: Jewish Cemetery Outside Strasbourg Desecrated with Nazi Swastikas

Jewish headstones in a cemetery near Strasbourg were found to be daubed with Nazi graffiti hours before an Islamic terrorist opened fire at a Christmas market in the eastern France city.

Herrlisheim, a northern suburb of the city, was the site of the attack. A member of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF), an umbrella of French Jewish communities, confirmed the desecration.

The unidentified perpetrators wrote “CRIF = ZOG” and the digits 88 on the tombstones. ZOG stands for “Zionist occupation government.” The number is code for Adolf Hitler.

This is the fourth time in two months that anti-Semitic graffiti has been found in a major public place in the eastern Alsace region, according to the Jerusalem Post. In two separate incidents, Jewish mayors were the target of the graffiti.

On the same day the most recent graffiti was discovered, Strasbourg saw one of its main avenues renamed for Simone Veil, a Holocaust survivor and former minister who died last year.

May staying is the ultimate betrayal of the referendum result

If the VOTERS had weighed in on the No Confidence challenge of Theresa May’s premiership, would she have REMAINED leader of the party?

For two-and-half years LEAVE voters have watched as Mrs. May has promised time after time that ‘Brexit means Brexit’ only to break those promises. Now, to see the horrific real life ‘Deal or No Deal’ being played out with the end game seeming to be to lock Britain into the worst version of EU membership that has ever been, is bone chilling.

The renewed hope in recent days as whispers of a no confidence challenge came and went as we witnessed the Tories, whether for fear of reprisal or some other reason, unwilling to vote against her. The number of votes was certainly damning for her, but not enough to overturn her leadership.

Can the opposition call for their own leadership challenge? Some are saying they can and potentially will even before Christmas. Would this force a General Election? If so, would it have been better for the Tories to have replaced her to keep that from happening?

At present you have a majority of the British public in the historically largest voter turnout referendum in UK history, all in various stages from disappointment to outright anger over Mrs. May’s literal denial of democracy as she steals the result of the referendum out from under the British public’s noses. It beggars belief.

What will happen next? Will the British public contact their MP’s and demand they vote down the disastrous deal she’s apparently already made with the EU? With the EU claiming there is no chance to renegotiate what should the public response be?

It is ultimate betrayal of the referendum result. It would come as no surprise if after the next General Election, the Conservative Party does not regain the reins of power for an entire generation.

Meet The Board Of The Fusion GPS-Linked Group Investigating Trump

A mysterious nonprofit group backed in part by George Soros and linked to Fusion GPS has investigated President Donald Trump and possible Russian interference.

The Democracy Integrity Project has largely remained a mystery, but The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned new details about the group’s board of directors.

One board member is an attorney who has worked closely with Fusion GPS in the past. The lawyer, Adam Kaufmann, has worked for Derwick Associates, a Venezuelan power company accused of bribery and money laundering.

Days after Donald Trump’s inauguration, a nonprofit organization opened up shop in Washington, D.C., to continue a private investigation into the president’s possible ties to Russia.

Only a few details of the group, the Democracy Integrity Project, have trickled out over the nearly two years since its founding.

The organization’s founder, a former Senate Intelligence Committee staffer named Daniel J. Jones, hired opposition research firm Fusion GPS and dossier author Christopher Steele as part of the initiative, he told the FBI in March 2017. And it has been revealed that billionaire financier George Soros has given at least $1 million to the group and is considering giving more.

But The Daily Caller News Foundation has obtained Democracy Integrity Project’s articles of incorporation showing that a white collar defense attorney who has worked with Fusion GPS in the past and a former State Department official were also on the group’s board of directors.

Documents obtained through a public records request show that Adam Kaufmann, a partner at the firm Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss, and Dafna Hochman Rand, the former deputy assistant secretary of state in the bureau of democracy, human rights and labor, are listed along with Jones as Democracy Integrity Project board members.

Rand is listed on the initial registration for the Democracy Integrity Project, which was filed on Jan. 31, 2017. Her LinkedIn profile says that she worked at the State Department through January 2017, though the exact date of her departure is unknown. Rand is not listed as a board member in a March 31, 2017, filing, suggesting that she left the organization shortly after joining.

The CEO of privacy search engine DuckDuckGo says Google uses location data that puts entire ZIP codes in politically biased 'filter bubbles'

On Tuesday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was interrogated by the House Judiciary Committee over a number of topics including potential bias in the search results it provides users.

DuckDuckGo – a privacy-focused search engine company that competes with Google Search – released a study last week that claims Google is inadvertently introducing bias into its results.

“Google’s collection and use of personal data, including location, which is then used to filter specific search results, is having an effect akin to the effects of a political bias,” DuckDuckGo CEO Gabriel Weinberg told Business Insider on Tuesday.

The company’s study found participants saw vast differences in search results when searching for the same keywords (like “gun control” or “immigration”) from different locations across the country.

A Google spokesperson said, in part: “This study’s methodology and conclusions are flawed.”

On Tuesday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was interrogated by the House Judiciary Committee over a number of topics including the company’s data collection and potential bias in the search results it serves up to users.

Republican House members – including Rep. Lamar Smith (TX) – didn’t hold back on the topic of conservative bias.

“It will require a herculean effort by the chief executive and senior management to change the political bias now programmed into the company’s culture,” Smith said, citing “irrefutable” studies on the subject. “Google could well elect the next president with dire implications to our democracy.”

Pichai responded: “With respect… we don’t agree with the methodology [of the studies].”

May’s Humiliation Tour: EU Leaders Grant PM ‘Ten Minutes’ for Brexit Talks

Theresa May’s position in Europe does not appear to have been strengthened after she survived a vote of no confidence in her leadership by Tory MPs, with European Union leaders granting her just ten minutes of their time to discuss changes to the “worst deal in history” which she has negotiated with the bloc.

Mrs May leads a minority government which has so far been unable to pass her deal through Parliament in the face of a united front of Brexiteer MPs in her own party, left-wing opposition MPs, and MPs for Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), which furnishes her with a parliamentary majority via a “confidence and supply” arrangement.

She has embarked on a whistlestop tour of EU capitals to try and win more concessions on the deal’s contentious backstop provisions in order to alter the parliamentary arithmetic, but, despite all the concessions she has made to them, her EU counterparts seem indisposed to lend a helping hand.

The prime minister’s team may have hoped the EU would be prepared to offer some at least cosmetic changes to the deal after she saw off the attempt to oust her by Brexiteer MPs, who would have been likely to junk the agreement with altogether and pursue a “No Deal” exit — costing Brussels the £39 billion she has agreed to hand over — in order to give her a better chance of getting the deal through the House of Commons.

However, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker declared even before the no confidence vote that there was “no room whatsoever for renegotiation” of the Withdrawal Agreement, only “further clarifications and interpretations” of the existing text.

European Council boss Donald Tusk struck an equally uncompromising tone, adding — unlike the prime minister — that the EU would step up preparation for “No Deal” in case talks fell through.

This strategy of attempting to bend the British government until it breaks appears to remain in place, with the EU technocrats telling The Telegraph that the bloc intends to give her just ten minutes to plead a case for the changes which she thinks will give her a chance of securing parliamentary support for the Withdrawal Agreement.

“Politically she can have all the warm words she wants, but it was very clear in the meeting that there is very little appetite indeed for anything legally binding,” a senior EU diplomatic source told the newspaper.

In Germany, too, which remains the driving force in the EU despite Chancellor Angela Merkel’s wounded state, the Bundestag (federal parliament) has passed an unusually robust motion vowing that there will be no compromise with Mrs May.

German lawmakers backed a motion asserting in no uncertain terms that “it would be an illusion to hope that a rejection of the deal could lead to renegotiations”.

The prime minister is yet to directly address any of her EU partners’ statements that her deal is not up for discussion in any meaningful way.

Netanyahu: Israel ‘won’t rule out’ military action in Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that Israel would not rule out undertaking military action inside Iran.

Addressing a gathering of foreign media yesterday, Netanyahu was asked what his “red line” would be for attacking Iranian territory, rather than Iranian proxies alleged to be operating in Syria and Lebanon, the Times of Israel reported. Netanyahu replied:

"Our red line is our survival. I’m not ruling out doing anything that we need to do to defend ourselves – we do what is necessary to protect the state of Israel against the Iranian regime, which openly calls for the annihilation of the Jewish state."

“For the moment, Israel is the only military in the world that is directly engaging Iranian forces,” Netanyahu continued, referring to Israel’s repeated use of air strikes against what it claims are Iranian positions in Syria. Despite officially declaring a non-intervention policy in the now seven-year-old Syrian civil war, Israel has continually struck targets on Syrian soil, with some strikes allegedly undertaken at the behest of the US. Israel is also known to have armed and funded opposition groups with the aim of keeping Iranian-backed forces away from the Golan Heights, which it has occupied since the Six Day War of 1967.

Past Their Sell-By Dates, Merkel and May Cling on to Power with Plot and Process

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has promised parliamentary colleagues she would not fight the next British general election, a price paid for her short-term political survival also employed by Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The two world leaders, overtaken by events of their own making, within their own control, but beyond their competence now rely on party processes and hastily made deals to sustain them beyond what their rivals see as their natural points of departure.

Germany’s Merkel sowed the seeds of her own demise in 2015 when reacting to emerging illegal migration streams from the Syrian civil war, she declared on the behalf of both her nation and the European Union at large “wir schaffen das” — ‘we can do it’. The ensuring rush at national borders thrown open metastasized into the Europe migrant crisis, and robbed Merkel of her moral authority as a leader, which was expressed in a series of poor election results at the national and local level.

Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU-CSU) party saw their worst national result since 1949 at the 2017 general election, leaving her to form another so-called ‘grand coalition’ with her left-wing opposition to maintain power. The result came among others in Hesse, Bavaria and Berlin which saw record lows for Merkel’s candidates.

Finally concluding her days were numbered, Merkel struck a Faustian pact with the party to give herself years more at the top of German politics. Going against her own previously stated belief that leadership of her party and leadership of the nation should go hand in hand, Dr Merkel gave up leadership of the party but said she would stay chancellor until 2021.

Despite German voters turning against Merkel’s policies in droves, party members chose her eventual replacement to provide more of the same, voting for ‘Mini Merkel‘ Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer in December.

While Merkel’s undoing is widely thought to have been her handling of the migrant crisis she was midwife to, Britain’s Theresa May has also fallen victim to her own political works thanks to her handling of Brexit.

Taking on the mantle of leadership of the Conservative Party in the wake of the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron and the Brexit referendum he lost as the British people — against expectations — voted to leave, May made a series of grand promises she has subsequently failed to keep.

Polish MEP Trolls Macron, Calls for EU Debate on ‘French Democratic Crisis’

A Polish MEP belonging to the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party requested a debate in the European Parliament on what he labelled a “crisis” of democracy in France following the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vests) protests.

MEP Ryszard Czarnecki submitted the proposal this week saying that there was a “crisis of democracy in France” and that the subject was important to discuss in the parliament as France is one of the European Union’s largest member states, Polish broadcaster TVP Info reports.

“We are very concerned about the situation in this country. During the last four weekends, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators have appeared on the streets of French cities. Over 2 thousand were arrested, nearly 900 people were injured,” Czarnecki added.

Czarnecki pointed out that another parliamentary faction had made a similar request regarding the Czech Republic saying, “As the European Parliament dealt with the situation in Romania earlier, the situation in Hungary, the situation in Poland, so should we talk about the situation in France, because it is important from the point of view of the interests of the entire European Union.

Czarnecki noted that if the body did not debate the situation in France it could be seen as hypocritical and only concerned with debating issues in Central and Eastern European member states.

EU Parliament president Antonio Tajani put the vote to members by a raising of hands and determined the proposition for a debate had been rejected.

The move comes after the EU parliament has moved against Hungary and enacting article 7 over accusations of targetting mass migration NGOs, controlling Hungarian media, and removing certain judges. Poland faced similar threats when the country attempted sweeping judicial reforms last year.

The call for a debate is also a clear swipe at globalist French President Emmanuel Macron whose policies have been the subject of four straight weeks of often violent protests by members of the Yellow Vest movement which has spread across the country and most recently into neighbouring countries like the Netherlands and the heart of the EU in Belgium.

Netanyahu: Israel Keeps the World Safe from Terrorism

JERUSALEM – Israel is keeping the world safe from terrorism, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday, pointing to “40 major terrorist attacks” that the Jewish state recently thwarted on “almost all continents.”

Addressing a group of reporters at an annual event held by the Government Press Office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Israel had provided “unmatched intelligence” that prevented about “40 major terrorist attacks that have threatened the entire world.”

“Israel is helping keep the world safe from terrorism,” the prime minister said.

He pointed to a foiled plot by the Islamic State terrorist group in February of last year to blow up a plane en route to Sydney from Abu Dhabi. Intelligence gathered by the IDF’s elite Unit 8200 was provided to Australian authorities who then stopped the attack.

Netanyahu continued by outlining Israel’s efforts in combating the largest state sponsor of terror, Iran.

“Israel is a world force in combating terrorism, the Arabs get it,” he said. “The Arab countries understand exactly that Israel is not their enemy, but their indispensable partner” against extremists.

The prime minister then presented a graph which he said featured the outcome of a poll determining the percentage of people around the world who believe Iranian claims that it harbors no nuclear aspirations.

“Forty-three percent [of respondents in the Middle East] say they don’t believe Iran is stopping its military capabilities and mass destruction capabilities, its nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.

He also said Israel is in “the process of rolling back Iran’s aggression” and its plan to acquire nuclear weapons. Doing so, he added, has also enabled a thawing of relations with Arab states hostile to Iran.

His comments came amid reports that he is working to formalize ties with Saudi Arabia ahead of Israel’s 2019 elections.

Netanyahu also said the IDF is “the only military in the world directly engaging Iranian forces,” referencing strikes against Iranian militias and proxies such as Hezbollah in neighboring Syria.

Israel’s efforts in preventing Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria, Netanyahu said, will stop the Islamic Republic from establishing a foothold on a large, continuous swath of territory in the region.

He then described the recently exposed attack tunnels excavated by Hezbollah as “a clear act of aggression.”

Last week, Israel launched “Operation Northern Shield” to detect and destroy cross-border subterranean tunnels that the IDF said Hezbollah was planning to use to infiltrate the Jewish state and launch attacks.

“I hope, I believe Hezbollah will not make the terrible mistake of trying to attack Israel or trying to interfere with our legitimate actions in trying to neutralize these tunnels. If they will, they will suffer much pain and quickly,” Netanyahu said. “I think they’re smart enough not to try us.”

Netanyahu slammed the Lebanese government for failing to “protest” Hezbollah’s actions. “We do hold them accountable for any aggression that is being perpetrated from their territory,” he stated.

Netanyahu also warned Tehran that Israel would be prepared to strike on Iranian soil if it meant ensuring the Jewish state’s survival.

“Our red line is our survival,” he said.

“We do what is necessary to protect the State of Israel against the Iranian regime that openly calls for the annihilation of the Jewish state,” Netanyahu stated. “I’m not ruling out doing anything that we need to do to defend ourselves.”

‘Astonishing fraud: Pentagon stashes away unspent money & then uses it without any accountability’

Congress gives the Pentagon money if they report they’ve spent the budget while, in fact, they stash it away in secret places to use without any accountability at all, investigative journalist David Lindorff told RT.

US President Donald Trump has reportedly agreed to a Pentagon request to increase next year's military budget to $750 billion. However, just last week he slammed this year's defense budget as ‘crazy’.

RT spoke to David Lindorff, investigative journalist, and columnist for the Nation, who said that US military budget is now “larger than all the US debt in the history of the country.”

“Pentagon budget is $750 billion dollars at this point. And each year it has been lower than that before. And yet their accounting shows that they have $21 trillion additionally in the budget, the one they submit to Congress each year. One budget year it was $6.5 trillion budget just for the army – which that year really only had 122 billion,“ he continued.

He explained that Pentagon accountant service is “making up numbers and plugging them in …to make the financial documents that they submit to Congress each year for showing what they have spent the prior year and year before completely incomprehensible and unauditable.”

He called it an “astonishing fraud”.

Lindorff cited Jack Armstrong, who for five years was the supervising director of audits at the internal auditing agency for the Pentagon, the Office of Inspector General, and was supposed to monitor and make sure everything they are doing according to the way it is supposed to be, who said “If the Pentagon was being honest, they would tell Congress each year when they submit financial statements for the current year and prior years accounts that what they are giving them is garbage.”

He also recalled the words of Asif Khan, the head of the National Security Asset Management unit at GAO (Government Accountability Office) that monitors all government agencies, the Pentagon, the CIA, who said that the Pentagon for years has been at the top of his list of agencies that are high risk for fraud, waste, and abuse.

“Again, an astonishing fact that is not reported at all in the US corporate media,” Lindorff pointed out.

According to Lindorff’s sources that worked in the Pentagon, “they submit the financial statements from prior years showing falsely that it’s spent all its money and then asking for more.”

“And so Congress obligingly gives them more. But the money that they don’t spend each year gets stashed away in secret places within the Pentagon and gets used without any accountability at all. This means that they are able to do black operations that get no oversight. It means that they could use it for corrupt purposes. There are all kinds of things they could do with it. And that fund could be now as large as $100 billion which I would note is larger than Russia’s entire military spending, close to Chinese entire annual military spending. And that is a slush fund,” he told RT.

‘4,700 on Google ads – that’s it? We never found evidence of Russian collusion’

The goal of ‘Russian collusion’ hearings is not the truth – the Democrats are still trying to explain the people who gave a lot of money to Hillary Clinton why she lost, Lionel told RT.

The CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, gave some specific numbers on alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US election as he was questioned by the US House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

“Does Google now know the full extent to which its online platforms were exploited by Russian actors in the election two years ago?” New York Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler asked Pichai.

The tech giant’s CEO responded:

We undertook a very thorough investigation, and, in 2016, we now know that there were two main ad accounts linked to Russia which advertised on Google for about $4,700 in advertising.

Google, along with Facebook and Twitter, have been under scrutiny for the past two years over the Russian meddling claims. The companies have extensively probed the activity Russia-linked accounts, but no direct proof of meddling has been revealed so far.

Sex text MP has whip restored for crucial vote as May seeks ‘power over principle’

Theresa May has been widely attacked after the whip was restored to a disgraced sex text Tory MP, following which he voted for the embattled Prime Minister in Wednesday’s no-confidence vote.

MP Andrew Griffiths had been suspended since mid-July after a series of explicit and violent texts he sent to two Burton women, were exposed.

Despite this, the Chief Whip, Julian Smith, restored his place in the party. Griffiths had told Burton Live of his support for Theresa May, stating on Wednesday: “Theresa May has shown huge determination and bravery in negotiating and arguing for her deal.

“I believe she remains the best person to deliver the Brexit people in Burton and Uttoxeter voted for, and I will be supporting her in tonight’s ballot.”

The news drew widespread condemnation of the prime minister. Labour MPs Dawn Butler and Jess Phillips took to Twitter to attack May, while commentators accused her of ‘panic’ and seeking ‘power over principle.’

As well as Griffiths, the whip was also restored to MP Chris Elphicke; another Tory MP facing allegations of sexual offenses. Elphicke denies wrongdoing over accusations of sex offenses against two members of his staff.

Elphicke tweeted his pleasure at having the whip restored, although he didn't divulge which way he voted.

Regardless, May didn't need the two votes winning by a 200-117 margin, a significant rebellion but well below the 158 turncoats needed to trigger a Tory leadership election.
