I kind of suspect that is about the maximum capacity.
I did the same thing with both Q&As and simply gave up as the site had become unnavigable. The page would freeze when auto updating and the post counter was moving so slowly that I couldn't even get to the bottom of the page to uncheck the auto update box before it would start auto updating again and freezing the page.
