Sounds like the making cogs for the machine agenda that got put in place when Rockefellers took over education last century, which got replaced with the dumbing down once the project moved on to bringing down the country.
People are not in charge of their lives, they're forced to carry out requirements by the system that undermine their social and economic stability. How much is it luck of the draw whether the people you end up as classmates with will be friend or foe, to help you develop emotionally, which is what interactions are supposed to do, then carry that forward in all social- and work-related environments, spending more time with co-workers that have no connection to you than with your family, which weakens emotional bonds, manufactured entertainment based on distraction, passivity, addiction, designed to enrich an entity outside your community, instead of participatory. A system that views people as parts to be assigned roles to build an empire, kept plugged into an environment that is not their making.
