Donald Trump, the Biblical King Jehu, and the Unfinished Border Wall

As President Donald Trump’s second year draws to a close, his project of “draining the swamp” faces an uncertain future.

Thus far, Trump has made significant progress toward reforming Washington. Through the Congressional Review Act, the Trump administration rolled back excessive regulations. And by appointing constitutional conservatives to the bench, Trump has reinforced constraints on activist judges and big government in general.

Trump has also rid federal agencies of pernicious forms of institutional corruption — such as the abuse of third-party settlements at the Department of Justice, which were used to fund left-wing activist groups.

Moreover, when the administration has faced ethical questions — at least those that are not frivolous or politically motivated — it has dismissed the officials involved.

But Trump has only partially succeeded in cleaning up Washington.

Democrats, poised to take over the House of Representatives, are promising to bring back “earmarks,” otherwise known as “pork” — a practice Trump mistakenly embraced in the hope of encouraging bipartisanship.

And Trump’s border wall — the key to restoring the rule of law in our immigration system — has yet to be funded or built.

In many ways, Trump is reminiscent of the biblical King Jehu, an outsider who was anointed to rule Israel and rid it of corruption.

At the time, ancient Israel had been divided into two kingdoms: Israel, to the north, and Judah, to the south. Judah, which included the holy city of Jerusalem, benefited from the leadership of several wise and righteous kings, even if it also suffered episodic misrule by bad kings in between.

==But Israel had become thoroughly rotten.

2 Kings 9 tells the story of how Elisha the prophet called one of his disciples to anoint Jehu, then a military officer, as king to replace King Jehoram, the son of the infamous King Ahab, who had made idolatrous worship the law of the land.==

“An Airport For An Airport,” Syrian Army To Respond To Any Future Israeli Attacks – Report

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) will respond to any Israeli attack on its bases as a part of a new policy, which was adopted by the Syrian leadership following the downing of the Russian Il-20 plane last September, the Kuwaiti al-Ra’i newspaper reported on December 15 citing a high-ranked Syrian official.

“Damascus is waiting for any Israeli strike on specific military targets to retaliate with a similar strike, this means that a strike on an airport in Syria will be met with a strike on an airport in Israel and so on,” the unnamed official told al-Ra’i.

According to the official, Moscow has given Damascus a green light to respond to any Israeli strike that would destroy Syrian military capabilities or kill foreign advisers supporting the SAA. Tel Aviv was reportedly warned of this new policy.

“Any strikes against Syrian or an Iranian targets will be targeting Russian forces, which will not allow Israel to kill its soldiers and officers directly or indirectly,” the official said describing the Russian warning to Israel.

The source went on to deny Israel’s claims regarding the destruction of the Syrian missile capabilities and revealed that Syria had received medium and long range missiles guided with the Russian satellite navigation system, GLONASS. The SAA will use these missiles to respond to any Israeli attack.

On November 29, Israel made its first attempt to hit targets inside Syria since the downing of the Il-20. However, Syria said that all Israeli missiles were successfully intercepted. To this day, there is not evidence that any position was hit in the Israeli attack.

The Ministry of Defense of Syria will not likely confirm or deny al-Ra’i’s report, as Damascus don’t reveal such strategic decisions usually.

New Rules Of Engagement Between Syria And Israel, As Russia Changes Its Position

Syria will adopt a new rule of engagement with Israel now that Russia has taken a tougher and clearer stance on the conflict between Israel and the “Axis of the Resistance”. Henceforth, Damascus will be responding to any Israeli strike. If it damages a specific military target it will reply with a strike against a similar objective in Israel. Decision makers in Damascus said “Syria will not hesitate to hit an Israeli airport if Damascus airport is targeted and hit by Israel. This will be with the consent of the Russian military based in the Levant”.

This Syrian political decision is based on a clear position taken by Russia in Syria following the downing of its aircraft on September 18 this year. In 2015 when the Russian military landed in Syria, it informed the parties concerned (i.e. Syria, Iran and Israel) that it had no intention to interfere in the conflict between them and Hezbollah and that it would not stand in the way of Tel Aviv’s planes bombing Hezbollah military convoys on their way to Lebanon or Iranian military warehouses not allocated to the war in Syria. This was a commitment to remain an onlooker if Israel hit Iranian military objectives or Hezbollah convoys transporting arms to Hezbollah from Syria to Lebanon, within Syrian territory. It also informed Israel that it would not accept any attacks on its allies (Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, and their allies) engaged in fighting ISIS, al-Qaeda and its allies.

Israel respected the will of Moscow until the beginning of 2018, when it started to attack Iranian bases and Syrian military warehouses, though it never attacked a Hezbollah military position. Israel justified its attack against the Iranian base, a military facility called T4, by claiming it had sent drones over Israel. Tel Aviv considered violation of its neighbours’ sovereignty as its exclusive prerogative. Damascus and Iran have responded with at least one confirmed shooting down of an Israeli F-16. Israel started to attack Syrian warehouses, mainly where Iranian missiles were stored. Iran has replaced every single destroyed warehouse with other more sophisticated precision missiles, capable of hitting any objective in Israel.

Obama pushes for ObamaCare enrollments after Texas judge deems law unconstitutional

Barack Obama took to social media Saturday to urge people to sign up for health care on the final day of Affordable Care Act enrollment. His appeal came a day after a Texas judge struck down the former president’s signature legislation as unconstitutional.

Aside from reminding people that Saturday would be the final day to enroll for affordable health care for 2019, Obama appeared to play down the significance of the ruling.

“You might have heard about a federal court decision on a Republican lawsuit trying to strike down the Affordable Care Act in its entirety,” he said in Facebook post. “As this decision makes its way through the courts, which will take months, if not years, the law remains in place and will likely stay that way.”

The ruling, he said, “changes nothing for now.”
