There are a number of hermetic orders, each stemming from various cultures and times - but often using much of the same symbolism. I studied Taoism quite a bit - and you'll find that the Asian cultures recognize it. That is why Anime will play a lot with Jewish hermeticism. The more you begin to look at the various ancient religions/pantheons as something people once truly experienced… It becomes relatively obvious they are all describing the same thing. Which is intriguing, given that these different cultures supposedly separated before language was a thing. You need a language to record events and communicate them to your children.
How is it that the greek gods/goddesses, titans, gaia/uranus, etc all find their way, under different names and slightly altered arrangements, into every major pantheos?
If the early proto-humans all took off through Europe and Asia before language was developed - how is it that these concepts survived? Was language more advanced far earlier than we thought, or even civilization? Were there the same 'gods' all across the globe, interacting with the people of those times?
Of course, I am careful how much stock I place in each order's claim to have the truth to pass down in the first place. They may know things most do not, but sometimes the more you know, the less certain things become.
