Blast Smashes Windows, Wrecks Offices at Greece’s SKAI TV

ATHENS—A powerful blast smashed windows and wrecked offices at Greece’s SKAI TV in Athens on Dec. 17, in what officials called an attack on democracy. No one was injured.

SKAI is one of Greece’s biggest TV stations and part of a media group which includes a radio station and is affiliated with the leading daily newspaper, Kathimerini.

Police said a makeshift explosive device went off near the SKAI building at 2:35 a.m. following warning calls to two media outlets. On its website, the station said windows were smashed from the first to the sixth floors.

“The material damage is big on almost all floors, with the biggest seen on the third and fourth floors, where employees’ offices are located,” it said.

Deputy Home Minister: No more regular legalization for illegals

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry will no longer undertake the legalisation of illegal immigrant workers on a regular basis.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said this was to prevent illegal immigrants from taking the country's laws lightly and deliberately overstaying after their passes expire.

“The frequent holding of the legalisation programme can become a bad culture for the country,” he said.

For that reason, the Immigration Department was taking stringent measures in its operations because his ministry wanted to give a clear message to illegal immigrants that firm action would be taken against them without any compromise, he told the Dewan Negara today

Foreign Political Donations Will Be Illegal in Australia From 2019

As part of a package of laws to protect Australia against covert foreign political interference, a law banning foreign political donations will come into force from Jan. 1, 2019, the office of Senator and Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has confirmed.

The new law was passed in federal Parliament on Nov. 27 and signed off by the Governor-General, Peter Cosgrove, on Dec. 13.

The Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform Bill was first introduced to the Senate in Dec. 2017 after former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced the government was acting on concerns about external interference in Australian politics, citing media reports about interference from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

News of China’s social credit system has been making waves across media outlets for months. Some publications are going soft on the massive surveillance state, saying it is not as bad as it seems (it is), while others are referring to it as something straight out of Nineteen Eighty-Four (again, it is). With pilot programs operating in certain municipalities, the system is already affecting citizens’ lives by limiting their ability to travel or send their children to universities.

The final version of the social credit system is expected to be fully implemented by 2020, but Beijing is being vague regarding the confirmed list of offenses and how the program will work. Here are some of the actions the Chinese government deems “bad behaviors” that warrant punishment:
