WASHINGTON, DC – In a quiet, almost unnoticed Executive Order issued 12 SEP 2018, President Donald J. Trump has ordered the Director of National Intelligence to conduct an assessment on United States election integrity and deliver this assessment and appropriate supporting information to the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security. This report is due no later than 22 DEC 2018.
Within 45 days of receipt of this report, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the heads of any other appropriate agencies and, as appropriate, State and local officials, shall deliver to the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Secretary of Defense a report evaluating the extent to which foreign actors may have played a role.
Following the submission of this second report, the EO orders that the United States assets of any foreign person determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security: to have been tampering with, or assisted in tampering with, a US election, or all assets of any United States person found to have been tampering, or assisted in tampering with, a US election, will be frozen immediately, blocked, and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in in any way, shape, or form.
