Check out how many odd local business in new York call themselves Oz. Most of them employ symbolism only seen in the works of the Elite.

Lyman Frank Baum is the creator of the Wizard of Oz. He was also born in upstate N.Y.

The Wizard of Oz himself is based on PT Barnum and Thomas Edison. Two folks who ended up dominating certain aspect of New York itself, and they both made their names in the city. (Technically Edison was in new jersey)

Looking at the whole thing, you see New York is almost always a present element in almost all incarnations of the Wizard Of Oz. Even in NY is one of the hottest clubs called "Emerald City". It just doesn't stop. I'd be curious to see someone dig here.
