This might ruffle some evangelical feathers but I'm feeling philosophical. What do anons think about this. Jesus was most likely an Essene. If you don't know who the Essenes were then I suggest doing a cursory dig before replying. I think JC was most likely a real person but more like an enlightened zen master, yogi, monk, mystic or whatever other title you want to call it. I think the movement that he started had to be "shut down" so the Jewish and Roman leaders altered his story a bit, deified him and put their thumb on his movement while turning it into an organized religion with an authority structure. He threatened the status quo and they had to do something about it. Thoughts?

I mean I like most of his teachings but when you really break them down he comes off as a socialist monk. Modern Christianity and the church do not jive with his teachings. That was the one thing that was always so difficult for me to reconcile.
