You can remain anonymous and mine on public land in every state.
GPAA/AMRA etc if you want access to claims/knowledge
Self employed
It isn't terribly complicated, understanding fluid mechanics/gravity, but it is hard work unless you have the right tools.
Keep in mind;
Most of the miners were high graders (grabbed the easy stuff)
Mining died off in 1942 due to war/ban
Estimated only 20% has been mined (lode or placer)
Gold in every state (some better than others)
