The link between Mormons and CIA is obvious once you know about the secret handshake/ masonic stuff they do in their temples. This was incorporated early in their history, during the life of the 'dude from Missouri' who was actually a dude from New York.
Yes, millions of somewhat logical persons believe there are real golden plates involved in their origin story.
Howard Hughes liked to hire Mormons because they were so worried about their Mormon eschatology and general pursuit of righteousness they were surprisingly reliable and trustworthy in other areas that were important to him as he was buying and shaping Las Vegas back in the 60s.
Here's a paradox. Mormons actually represent an unused secret weapon against secret organizations because the book they believe in goes into extensive detail about how evil secret organizations are, and how "secret signs and combinations" etc, are from the devil. Theoretically, this is a core part of their belief, and could be used to raise up a huge number of anti-secret-organization citizens. They are incredibly hierarchically organized and thus such a move would need to come from their top leaders.
You would also have to deal with the pesky paradox of having a strong belief against secret organizations and themselves having secret rituals in their own temples, yes, sealed with blood covenants. In other words, their holy book says no secret organizations, but when the freemasons infiltrated, they kinda missed that fact.
Aside from those temple ordinances and an extremely strong hierarchy which creates cult-like obedience, mainstream Mormons are fairly decent people.
Probably due to unresolved stresses buried in this and other such paradoxes, their dissidents get weird though (e.g., believing in polygamy even after was outlawed in the late 1800s in order for Utah to join the Union) and there are lots of these dissidents in Utah. Those are the ones that are nowhere close to logical.
