>>4385315 (PB) meteors can leave trails like that, saw one before, entry angle can make cloud look funny and then it flames out, fireball can be quite intense and bright for a few seconds, In December every year about this time there is a spectacular shower of green fireballs (nickel metal flaming) and I've seen one of those get to pretty low altitude, lighting up the area on a moonless night.
