The last real shutdown, where Obama vindictively shut down national parks and veterans' memorials, only 17% of the Fed workforce was deemed essential, meaning 83% percent of these Fed workers we don't need.

The point is the government ran on 17% of it's workforce, meaning there must be a shitload of fat to be cut, if 83% had a paid-by-Congress-later vacation and essential services were maintained.
Less is more, especially in government workers–salaries and bennies cost a lot.
Well, if Congress hadn't paid them to stay home, maybe those loafers would learn to vote.
