The debt in this world is widely held. If/when it goes away, there will be widespread destruction of wealth - corporations, local and state governments, retirement and pension plans, on and on.
The global financial system is a highly leveraged, highly complex system. It's a bubble without historical precedent. If the debt bomb (or the worse derivative bomb) goes off, it will be smoke and ashes time, and that risk has been very widely spread. Go back to sleep now.
