MSM meltdown

War on Terror is won AND lost in single edition of the Daily Telegraph

Either the War on Terror has been won and it’s time to go after Russia, or there’s a new wave of terrorists on their way to Europe. The Telegraph was a confusing read for those who picked up today’s edition.

The British newspaper covered all its bases, by running stories declaring on the one hand “We’ve won the War on Terror,” while on the other, that Europe is under threat from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists.

Telegraph readers face a choice about which story they are ready to put most trust in. The warning of a terror threat to Europe posed by returning jihadis comes from the head of Interpol Jurgen Stock. He says there’s a risk of jihadists returning from the Middle East to cause chaos in what he’s calling “ISIL 2.0.”

Meanwhile, the controversial Telegraph columnist Con Coughlin is the one declaring a victory in the War on Terror. Coughlin was recently accused by fellow journalist Owen Jones of regurgitating false stories fed to him by MI6, and recreating pro-Saudi propaganda, among other things.

Coughlin believes the war on Islamic terrorism is over and already has his eye on the next conflict. The print version of Coughlin’s column carried the headline “The War on Terror is won, now let’s tackle Putin.”

With Coughlin accused of having links to the security services and pushing for and supporting the 2003 war in Iraq even after it became clear it was a misadventure of historic proportions, critics will wonder why he is so ready to start pushing for conflict with Moscow.

Ohio Gov. Kasich issues order reversing his stance on anti-discrimination policy for transgender employees

The Republican governor's order comes as he prepares to leave office next month

Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich signed an executive order Wednesday that prohibits discrimination of state employees or job applicants based on gender identity and expression.

The order, which comes as Kasich is preparing to leave office, is a marked change from his previous stance on the issue.

In 2011, shortly after the governor took office, he removed "gender identity and expression" from the state's policy for government employees. It had been added more than a decade ago by former Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland.

A spokesperson for Kasich told Cleveland.com that Kasich had removed gender identity from the policy because it was what he felt was "most appropriate" at the time.

What happened?

Months of lobbying by advocacy groups, such as Equality Ohio and TransOhio, may have led to Kasich's change of heart, but his spokesman Jon Keeling declined to explain the reason for the governor's policy shift.

"Upon a recent review of the policy, the governor felt it should better include groups vulnerable to potential discrimination," Keeling said in a statement to Cleveland.com.

Equality Ohio's communications director Grant Stancliff told the news outlet that the change would have a positive impact on transgender employees.

"For transgender people who work for the state, especially around the holidays, I think it's going to provide a lot of comfort," Stancliff told the news outlet.

Will the order stay in place after Kasich leaves office?

It's unclear whether or not GOP Gov.-elect Mike DeWine, who takes office next month, plans to continue the order.

Spokesman Josh Eck said DeWine hasn't completed his review of Kasich's executive order and has not yet made any decisions.

What else?

Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, military status, age, disability, among others are also prohibited. However, the anti-discrimination policy for state employees is not an actual law.

Optimistic

DNC Announces 12 Presidential Primary Debates for 2020 Presidential Race

The Democratic National Committee has announced a dozen presidential primary debates for 2020, beginning in 2019.

They have not yet indicated which favored candidate they will leak questions to, like Donna Brazile did for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 race.

There will be six debates in 2019 and six in 2020. The first debate will occur in June of next year.

“The DNC will not bar candidates from participating in forums in which one candidate appears on stage at a time. The DNC will ask candidates to refrain from participating in debates other than the 12 debates sanctioned by the DNC,” the DNC announcement states.

Specific locations, dates and sponsors will be released in 2019.

The party hilariously claims that they will adjust the process “as appropriate” — and “always transparently.”

During the 2016 race, WikiLeaks revealed that the DNC was secretly working to undermine the Sanders campaign in favor of Clinton.
