His views that Russia and China are strategic adversaries (my paraphrase) are apparently at odds with the President's.
I had wondered about that.
Back at bigcorp where I once held a high level position, there was a saying about how to manage your manager. And that was to provide the manager with the information that would result in him/her making the decisions you wanted. Also making your manager look good to his/her higher-ups was a good way to get good personnel reviews and ultimately promotions.
Kind of cynical.
