I trust the Marine Corps still has a few qualified Generals. I served under many, and I never met a Marine Officer I didn't respect. A lot.

I didn't read it that way. It's just that Mattis is reflexively a warrior, he needs conflict like Andrew Jackson did. He differs with Trump and is doing the honorable thing by pointing it out. He's still a straight shooter in my book.
