GOP Leader McCarthy: House Will Have the Votes to Pass Spending Bill WITH Border Wall Funding Tonight

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) confirmed Thursday evening that the House will have the votes to pass the new interim bill WITH the border wall funding later tonight.

President Trump lit Congress up earlier Thursday when he dug in his heels and refused to sign a stopgap spending bill passed by the Senate Wednesday night that excluded the $5 billion for the border wall.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) confirmed Thursday that the House will add $5 billion in funding for border security plus additional money for disaster relief to the current interim bill after President Trump refused to sign the bill that came from the Senate last night.

The House then decided to vote on a “rule” which establishes how the House will consider the underlying bill. The rule establishes parameters of debate for the spending bill. If the House defeated the rule, the retooled plan to fund government and the wall would have been toast, says Fox News Congress reporter, Chad Pergram.

The House overcame a procedural hurdle and voted 221-279 to approve the “rule” which allows the measure to come to the floor.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says the House will have the votes to pass the interim spending bill WITH the wall funding later tonight.

The bill will then go to the Senate.

Democrat loses it over border wall, likens Trump to murderous King Herod, calls Homeland chief a liar—then walks out of hearing

"Thank God there wasn't a wall that stopped [Jesus] from seeking refuge in Egypt!"

Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez sure doesn't like the idea of a border wall.

The Illinois lawmaker in one blustery rant during a Thursday congressional hearing mocked Christians, likened President Donald Trump to King Herod of the New Testament — who massacred infants and toddlers in the hopes of killing Christ after his birth — and then called Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen a liar to her face.

'Maybe I haven't gone a lot to Bible school, but I know that part'

Gutierrez first mocked the Christian "majority" for wanting to focus on Christmas this time of year and noted that it's "repugnant to me and astonishing to me that during Christmas … a time in which we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ … who had to flee for his life with Mary and Joseph, thank God there wasn't a wall that stopped him from seeking refuge in Egypt."

Making angry faces and wagging his finger as his voice grew sharper, Gutierrez added, "Thank God there wasn't an administration like this or he would have too … perished when Herod ordered the murder of every child under two years of age. Maybe I haven't gone a lot to Bible school, but I know that part." He pounded his finger a few times for good measure.

'Shame on us for wearing our badge of Christianity during Christmas'

"Shame on everybody that separates children and allows them to stay on the other side of the border fearing death, fearing sickness," Gutierrez concluded. "Shame on us for wearing our badge of Christianity during Christmas, and allowing the secretary to come here and lie."

'Calling me a liar are fighting words'

But Nielsen wasn't having any of it.

"Calling me a liar are fighting words; I'm not a liar," Nielsen shot back. "We've never had a policy for family separation. I'm happy to walk the gentleman through it again."

And as the secretary continued, Gutierrez rose from his chair and walked out the hearing.
